Keep us updated on what happens. I've got a friend who just changed his plugs in his 2005 5.4L with 90,000 miles on it with no problems.

Anyways, I'm just glad I've got a lot of friends who work at Ford dealers. .

Exclamation Grab a witness

If I were you I would grab a witness and bring up the issue of if they break one or screw anything up that they will be liable for the repairs and not you, because of the issues we have had on this forum with the spark plug change-out horror stories I would cover your @ss so they don't try and F you over.
Good Luck my friend we are praying for you and your truck

Mine was a horror story. 2004 XLT 5.4L 2WD 53k mi. Cleve OH, they quoted me $160 for T-up after explaining why I was changing the plugs. The very first one broke, dropping ceramic down the plug hole and into the cylinder. 2 more broke attempting to remove them. Engine and trans removed from truck, heads removed from engine and they tried to stick me with the bill $2400. Don't be so sure of the "they broke it, they bought it!" They will take as much $$ as you will LET them.

When I got home, I called my brother (who works for Ford in Dearborn), and he told me how lucky I was that no plugs broke. Then, I logged on here and was horrified at what I read.

I was actually a little sick to my stomach after reading everything,,,and I had already changed them with no problem. My brother tells me that it must be a regional thing with the gas. I am in Florida, and the plugs were 100% clean, even a little rust looking material on the electrodes. My brother said that they are usually covered in carbon.

I was a lucky one I guess...For ONCE..
Does anyone know why they are coming out rusty looking? Seems odd since it's a few hundred degrees in there.

When I had my plugs replaced I went back in the service area and looked at the plugs (they were fine, only 20,000 miles old). They should let you see them.

They came out fine at 103k miles. No issues. I really wanted to keep the plugs and take some pics, but I left the dealer without them.

Anyways, its was around 130 for the plugs alone and around 270 for the labor. Ill post the exact invoice later.

Just curious, what gas do you use? Any particular brand and what octane? Do you ever run a system cleaner through it?

Well when Im at home I use whatever Vons has at their pump. And when in AZ I go to a Love's truck stop.

I never run any type of cleaner through it either.

ok, thanks. You have given me encouragement. I decided a long time ago to go for the 100,000 before changing plugs. I am at 41,000 now, drive about 25,000 per year.
