Spark Plugs

Ok now it might seem like I'm crazy for this, but tomorrow im taking the truck in to have the plugs changed. The total milage on these plugs is 103,xxx.

I want your guys' opinions. What do you think is going to happen? The dealer was cognizant of the problem, although said they had never had an issue with an 04+ yet.

Have you read any of the multitude of other spark plug threads? There is a very high probability that they will have problems getting them out.

Was just asking for opinions. The dealer already said they If they break they'll handle it.

As long as you have that understanding, what do you have to lose. My dealer said the same thing and told me I only have 40,000 miles and to not mess with it now.

I hope you got that in writing. There have been several posts where dealerships have broken plugs and charged full price for the repairs.

EDIT: This post is a perfect example of what can happen: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...&postcount=471

My dealer charges $190 labor plus the plugs, which are about $17 a piece. So somewhere around $340.

Small price to pay IMO to avoid breaking one myself.....I will be paying to have them done at my 30K service in a few months....I am thinking about soaking the plugs up good with some penetrating oil a couple times about a month before I have it done.....then i'll be crossing my fingers

That seems like a lot of trouble. To really achive what is needed, you would have to remove COP and back off each plug about 1/4 turn, soak it. Then it would burn off. Don't see this helping with the plug removal. My thinking is that it is best to not have touched them if they are willing to take responsibility. There is a TSB that tells them what to do.

I believe the TSB includes letting the Kroil sit over night.

The TSB I read said 10 minutes, with warm engine. Not hot, warm. To work plugs back and forth and if a lot of resistance, more penatrating oil to be added, but being careful not to hydrolock the engine.

I replaced my plugs this weekend at 75,500. Luckily, I didn't read ANY of these threads before attempting it, because I NEVER would have tried. I changed them in about 2 hours (and was shocked when I saw the first plug). The whole time I was wondering what that god awful squeak was. When I got home, I called my brother (who works for Ford in Dearborn), and he told me how lucky I was that no plugs broke. Then, I logged on here and was horrified at what I read.

I was actually a little sick to my stomach after reading everything,,,and I had already changed them with no problem. My brother tells me that it must be a regional thing with the gas. I am in Florida, and the plugs were 100% clean, even a little rust looking material on the electrodes. My brother said that they are usually covered in carbon.

I was a lucky one I guess...For ONCE..
