Installing a Alarm

I have been looking on kcautosound site at alarms and I'm thinking I may order one. I'm looking at the Code Alarm CA-670 Elite Series 2-Way (LCD) Remote Starter/Keyless Entry/Alarm #68

But I would like a little insight on it and installing it when it comes pre-wired from them

I have read about how Travis is great to deal with. But I'm looking for a little user install advice or information.

How hard was it?
Did you install remote start also?
did you have to add any thing special to make it work right?

Thanks in advance

I have installed a few CA670s from Travis. The system on my truck is a CA670 but I purchased a CA680 remote for it. Also went with a Car-Link module, DUB1 tilt sensor, GBS glass break sensor and window roll-up modules.

His instructions are pretty simple now. They have pictures of the locations and his pre-wiring makes it easy to understand. In all with the CA670 I think you have about 15 connections. Two behind the headlight. Five in the drivers kick panel. Five at the ignition. Tach wire at the fuel injector which is simple to get to. Then the bypass module has two connections at the harness coming from the ring around the ignition. Not too bad. Programming is a little confusing but not too bad. His new units have been coming with zip ties and butt connectors needed for the starter kill connection. I recommend picking up some 3M super 33 electrical tape. Travis suggested it and I never use anything else. His instructions come with pictures of the tools he uses for his installs.

He's not a vendor on here or anything I don't believe. But just hit him up and he's a pretty fair guy. I learned a long time ago with him you pay for the quality and the expert help and warranty. He sends periodic emails out to site members checking on everyones product. I got one right before the cold season from him checking that everyones starters were ready for the season. Cares about his customers.

It sounds like you have the remote start also is that true? did you have to buy anything in else besides the pats item. Also what about the keypad does it work with the alarm. Sorry for so many questions I just want to make sure i get the right thing.

He sells you everything you need and yes the keypad works perfectly. There is nothing else to say because his instructions are near perfect with color coding, tips and pictures. I found a few really minor edits to his instructions and I redlined his docs and sent him the edits for our 2004+ F150s. I'm sure others on here have helped make his instructions as good as they are. Mine is a Lariat w/ the keypad and my alarm is a Code Alarm w/ remote start. I could not get mine to run tachless so I had to follow his instructions and run a line to the fuel injectors, simple stuff.

Be sure to call him before placing the order. There are several accessories that you may want to add on. He'll prewire the harness for everything you order. Travis is a awesome guy and will walk you through the confusing points. The only point I was confused was the programming.

I installed pretty much everything except car link.

Did you sign into his forums first? I only ask that because when I first came to his site I registered to his forums to send a private message. Then I found that I couldn't login or register to his store. I filled a contact form out and sent it to him through his store front and he called me and edited something and manually entered my account. Works fine now. Turns out that his registration works only one direction. If you register throgh the store it will register you with the forums and photo gallery. But if you register through his forum it locks you out of the store. Hit him up and he'll get ya fixed.

I have the CA670 remote start and alarm but I upgraded the remote to the 680. Only drawback is that the 680 remote is kinda big. Works with great with the keypad. Can arm and disarm with it.

Oh. Well that's different. I do know that if you add stuff to the cart and are checking out it will take you through steps to register you automatically. I walked a friend through his new checkout process and it was pretty smooth.

Okay got another quick question I went to the local car stereo shop today and asked about getting an alarm installed they told me that there was no way to make the key pad arm/disarm the alarm. If I remember correctly i thought somebody on here said it was possible?

My understanding is that the only one that works w/ the doorpad is the CodeAlarm (the same one Ford Uses). I'm betting the place you went to doesn't sell CodeAlarm.
