Anyone running headrest monitors?
I've decided it's almost time to add some moving pictures in the truck. Taking long rides with the family is getting a little boring for the little ones.
I've seen headrest monitors in several sedans and SUV's but never in a truck, and all look sweet .. .. real sweet!
The overhead rail system does't really impress me. I mean, it's not really that bad looking at all, but having two seperate monitors built into the headrests seems a lot more functional and appealing to me.
So, who has them, what did you pay for them, what brand/model to you recommend, are you happy with them and any other input you can provide would be appreciated. Should I get a large chain like Best Buy, Circuit City to install them or am I better going to a car audio/visual specialst? Are the original headrest used or do the monitors come pre-mounted on after-market headrests? Color match? Is it a DIY?
Would love to hear from those running the OEM Ford system, too. Pros and cons.
Thank you in advance.
PS: Pics would be awesome.

I have the Vizualogic headrest units. Both have a dvd player and a game hook up connector. Either dvd player can be watched on either screen, sound can be played through the oem radio or the wireless headphones. I was wanting to do a overhead system but it wasn't available through my dealer because I also have a sunroof. I had them do this with the sale of the truck. That also gave it a warranty on them for the 5-60K warranty I got on it when I bought it. The kit replaces the whole headrest. I like this now better than the single overhead because my kids can watch what they want or watch the same movie. You can find these things on ebay pretty cheap, But there are single and dual dvd players in the kits. Also there is a kit with 9" monitors. They have a factory 3year 36K warranty through Visualogic. http://www.vizualogic.com/

Get some aftermarket headrest with the built in screens and save the OEM ones for when it's time to sell. I bought my pair for a bit over $200 with 7" widescreen displays. They look really good but not nearly as good as my in dash player. Color wise they match my grey seats nearly perfect. A really good display is going to cost quite a bit more. I originally bought some cheap LCD displays made by BOSS and the picture quality was horrible.
Just be carefull of the width of the post before you buy cause mine just barely fit. I don't recall what site I bought them from I'll have to find my receipts.

Thanks for the replies people.
I like your setup, whitecrystal1
My interior is the same color as yours so the pictures you provided gives me a great idea of how the same setup would look in my truck. Looks awesome .. .. nice clean install.
I like the DVD player built into the screen itself rather than an external hovering player. That appeals to me for many reasons: the kids can watch seperate clips if they like, no external DVD player, etc The Side-loading DVD player with 9" widescreen monitor also seems like a winner to me.
One question: What did the setup cost you?
One other question: I can leave the OEM radio, correct? The only external piece, apart from the headrest monitors, is some type of module to connect the monitors to the head unit, correct?

Here is a set of 9" monitors but they only have a single dvd player http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Vizua...74868401QQrdZ1
I think they make the 9" monitors with the dual players to.
Yes, I'm using my stock radio, there is a FM module under the drivers seat that allows the monitors to play sound through the wireless headphones and the radio. You can even play one head unit through the radio while the other head unit plays it's own movie through the wireless headphone.
The units came with 2 headphones, One remote. one hand held game pack, the fm module (w/a game port) and the two headrests with dual dvd player. I later purchased a third headphone for $50 for when my kids have a friend with them. I didn't install mine but it has to be real easy.
