Installing AAl

So I am going to installing my aal this afternoon. Does anyone have insight for me? I am little worried if I will have any driveshaft problems. I also wanted to know if needs to go in relation to the overload spring. Pat will be helping or I will be helping me shall I say. How long did it take for people to do theirs?

It goes between the overload spring and the last spring in the springpack. The plastic button goes towards the rear of the truck's springpack. Since you have a lift I don't know how it will affect the driveline, but it didn't affect mine without any lift.

thanks Stealth! How long did it take you to do it? Do you do it by sides or do you just drop the whole axle?

Its a pretty easy install. The hardest part is opening up the factory spring clamps. The AAl goes into the pack, it will tell you in the destructions. We did one in a little over and hour using air tools.

The worst part is bending those tabs back and then back over the leafs. I did mine one side at a time.

I was a novice when I did mine, I tried one side at a time, too hard, big mistake. When I took it out I did both sides at the same time, much easier. I'm sure Pat will have a battle plan too. The hardest part is lining up all the holes in the springpack in order to get the pin bolts to line up.

Well we have a 4 hour window before the garage closes we are going to be using the lifts at Pat's school. Are the clamps hard to bend? Do you just use a pair of plyers?

I am confused to the clamp bending. I didn't have any clamps to bend with mine.

The two of you should knock it out in an hour or so. The clamps can be a PITA, I knocked the plastic cover off and stuck an old rachet extension in the hole and bent them back.....don't know if that was a good idea or not (if you try it, use an old extension you don't mind screwing up). :o

You can bend them open with a prybar or large screwdriver. The easiest way to close them is to use some really large slip joint pliers.

I am not too sure either. I have clamps but they are on the actual pack. The overload spring is not clamped...I have the newer leaf springs does that make a difference? Apparently there was some sort of recall because the old ones squeaked.

Thats right. The overload is not clamped and the AAl goes under the TOP spring (the longest one) and inside the leaf pack. The white anti squeak pad goes to the rear. You will have to unwrap the clamp, place the AAl in the pack and then bend them back around the pack. The overload stays in the pack and at the very bottom like it is now.

From what I remember that's how the skyjacker installation instructions (which I lost) said to put it.
Maybe I had it in wrong too. Nah, I doubt it. The others must have had different aal's.
