Just need an opinion here regarding a recent oil change
My local chain oil change shop was out of Mobil 1 when I went to get my oil changed today. They tols me I could get the oil and filter from the Autozone just down the street and they would just charge me labor, which sounded fair to me. As they were starting the oil change they correctly discovered that the K&N oil filter was the incorrect part. As the Autozone was just a few blocks away I ran over to it and got the correct filter as my truck was still on the lift with the oil draining out of it.
They installed the new filter and the guy said OK, start it up. I said whoa dude, let's add the oil first. He showed me the empty containers and said he had alreaddy put the oil in, and was just waiting for the filter. He stated that until the oil pump turned over you could add the oil to the crankcase without a filter and it would not just run back out.
I got to thinking about it on the way home, and they have always seemed to be honest in the past but I always liked to watch them put the Mobil 1 in, because it is expensive and you always wonder if someone less than honest might try and pull a fast one on you. Is there any way to really know for sure if I have Mobil1 in my crankcase?

Your welcome for the help
Your welcome for the help

or you could get a sample of it and have a chemical analysis done. but by the time you got results,,, it may be time for your next oil change.
just some ideas!!!!!!(probably not any help, though!!!!)
I would pull out the dipstick and rub the oil between my fingers. Mobile 1 feels slicker than dino oil.

Find someone you know and trust that uses dino oil.
Mobil 1 has a definite orange tint.
Wipe your dipstick across your forehead, then wipe the dipstick of the trusted friend across your chin.
If your friend determines that both oil marks look the same then immediately return to that shop and say,
"Look me in the face and tell me I don't have oil issues!"

You are a repeat customer bringing business in the door.
Why would they want to jeopardize that to switch out oil when they have oil coming out of their ears?
What would they do with your Mobil 1?
Put it in an unsuspecting customers vehicle who had paid for cheaper oil?
That would make them some kind of master criminals.
