Ball Joints

I'm about to install my lift on truck and i'm worried that my ball joints are bad. i've called around a few places in town but no one seems to carry them. I don't wanna start puttin my lift on and not be able to get the steering knuckle and upper control arm back together.

Where have you guys been getting new ball joints with the upper control arms?

I am in the same boat installing a lift and changing the ball joints since Im there anyways. I got my UCA with balljoint at Directfordparts.com for 69 each and my lower from work, I can order all that kind of stuff though my work and I can get just about anything. I paid 54 each for the lowers but they are heavy duty greaseable. I am pretty sure NAPA sell the lower and sway bar links.

are ball joints something you HAVE to change when installing a lift? or are you just being precautionary?

NOPE...just something to think about. I had AS on mine and didnt like the front end angles so I went with a Rancho full lift. It was piece of mind for ME thats all (changing to a lift) I didnt change UCA's though.

Mine dont have any slop but I am there and I want this to be the last time I take apart my suspension. I know I have put extra stress on them with my leveling kits so I am just doing it so I never have to look at my front end in the life of this truck.

I dont care what people say that was still some of the best crap I have done in my truck, While I was up there taking pics two people drove by and asked what the hell we were doing and the fastest thing I could think of was its our company car and we are donating for scrap tomorrow. That by far was one of least bad things I have done to my truck.

I've read that if you jack up your truck so your front wheel is just off the ground, you can then check the horizontal and vertical movement of the tire. If you can feel play when manually moving your tire left to right, or up and down, your balljoints have some wear.

Hopefully an expert will post in to confirm this for you.
