My '05 came with a harness, relay and instructions in the glove box. The connector is under the dash down low on the drivers side. If yours didn't come with your truck I guess you could get one from Ford or maybe someone on here would send/sell you theirs. Others that no more than me will likely be along but if you end up needing any information out of the "packet" let me know.

You should be able to go to a local auto store or RV camping dealer and find the harness that will plug directly from your brake controller into a port under your dash. All of our trucks have them and the local autostores usually carry them.

If you take a look in the towing & hauling forum, there is a sticky with the relay location info, both '00-'03 and '04+

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=184757

The pigtail that comes with the trailer tow instructions, plugs in under the dash :

These can be had after market, maybe Napa ?? I think others that did not get it online, got them from a U-Haul or DrawT dealer.
http://www.brakecontroller.com/ shows them on the right hand side of the page. They also have OEM to Prodigy and Primus direct pigtails, if you have that type of controller.

The other item that might not be installed is the full ISO relay for the Trailer Tow Battery charge ckt.:

A few months ago I traded a 06' screw XLT for a 06' screw FX4, since they come with the harness in the glove compartment, I have an extra one laying on my shelf. Its not doing me any good, so if you need it and would be interested in sending me an envelope to send it to you, just contact me.

My 04 had the wiring pigtail and for a brake controller in the driver's door pocket. The actual plug was next to where the steering column entered the cab and think the plug was light gray.

My 06 has the towing package, but there was no pigtail in the vehicle upon delivery! I think it was lifted enroute from the donating dealership (had to get it from an out of state dealer). When I complained to the service desk, they looked it up and claimed that in 06, there was no pigtail included???? Anyway, I still had the pigtail from my 2000 Lariat trade in. Thankfully I kept the pigtail from the 2000. I checked the schematics and they were wired identically. I found the connector under the dash just below the steering shaft.

How exactly do the trailer brakes work with the controller? Do the trailer brakes activate when you use the brakes on your truck, or do you have to manually press something for the trailer brakes to work?

My 06 purchased in 5/06 had the pigtail. Oversight on part of the delivery checklist. If you have one, then no big deal. I bought my brake controller with the nice made up cable, so I still have my factory one.

I'll take another opportunity to say that the prodigy is the best brake controller that I have owned.

Yes the brakes activate when you use the truck brakes. There is a gain dial on most that lets you adjust how much braking power the trailer brakes will apply, the heavier the load the more braking power you want but when unloaded you will want less. Also most models will have either a slide bar ot push button to manually engage the trailer brakes, most of the time I use this as soon as I hook up to any trailer just to make sure that the brakes are working. I have also had to use it while driving once, pulling a 28' enclosed trailer during an ice storm the wind started to jack knife the truck and trailer , so I manually applied the trailer brakes and pressed on the gas pedal to try and straighten it out, and it worked, then I pulled into the next rest area

my salesman walked over to another 06 on the lot and grabbed a harness for me. all I had to do was ask. they appear to be hit/miss on the lot.
