Nerf bar ?'s

I have a 2005 FX4 Silver/DS grey SCAB. I put on the 2.5" AS and Add a leaf and now my fiancee is moaning about getting in and out of my truck. I absolutely DO NOT want steps on my truck. I'm about 6'2" and it sits just perfect for me to get in and out of. But... if Momma aint happy aint nobody happy. What kind of step/bar should I go with? I don't want to spend a fortune on these dam steps that will be in my way anyways. I can't decide if I want the bar style like Westin, or the step style that I think are OEM. I do know that I want black not chrome. Are there other solutions that aren't too expensive? I want to see pics from your steps so I can get an idea of what to put on. Also if anyone has some they want to get rid of let me know. I always appreciate the help from this forum.

I had the same delima, not a wife though, lol, when my parents are w/ me. I have the putco 5" hybrid ovals. If you want other pics just let me know, there are some in my gallery. these steps dont even hang below the frame? if that makes sense.

Well I really like the way it looks without them right now, but I don't have a choice my baby gets what she wants (at my expense most of the time). So I need to figure out what will look the best, and see if anyone has some laying around I could pick up because I think I'm gonna spray them with bedliner anyway so they don't have to be brand new, not to mention the cost. They will get in the way off-roading but I'm forced to get them I think.

the n-fabs stay pretty tight to the body of the truck and only have wrungs for the step. here is a link http://www.n-fab.com/products.nerfsteps.asp
I didnt want steps either, i have been contemplating taking mine off but probably wont be for a while, they grew on me after a while. the whole time i was putting them on i was grumbling and gripping . .

If you plan on keeping your truck for a while and live in a part of the country that sees any amount of snow, I would steer away from the Black. I had Black on my 2000 and had to "touch" them up a few times. They seem to rust fairy easily. It took about three years for the first signs of rust, but it'll happen.

Stainless steel is the way to go.

You could try the power steps, they fold up out of the way when the doors are closed, and open automatically when you open them, and they come in black, but they are pricey ( about $1100 for a scab)

I am liking the N-Fab and I really like the hide away steps but a grand is way too much for me to blow. I certainly don't want something cheap or ugly on my truck but i'm not gonna spend more than I have to. BTW it doesn't snow much here in Fort Worth so the black will be fine for me.

Black Stainless

Snow or no snow, get BLACK STAINLESS. The problem is that rocks will sometimes fly up and have a tendency to chip the black. Then, the regular steel starts the corrosion process.

Black over stainless steel helps prevent that.

Two brands that I can highly recommend:

(1) Alpine Gear (kind of new, but 100% made in the USA). They have a black e-coated stainless that is doggone near bulletproof. It has a 10 year warranty. http://www.google.com/search?q=Alpin...ient=firefox-a

(2) Westin Platinum Series black powdercoated stainless steel.
