Dam Ashtray

Anyone know how to remove the panel covering the ash tray (04 Lariat) so I can get at the dam rattle. I don't want to break any tabs on the panel. I'll silicone everything in the ash tray mechanism to stop the rattle.
thanks

Have you seen this thread? There is a TSB on the ashtray rattle. I had it performed on my truck, and so far the rattle is gone.

The panel assembly is just held on by some clips. There is another thread around here that shows how to remove it, but I don't have a link handy...

This is the link for the ash tray removal an the TSB
http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Ford/1159...13/619131.html

I did the TSB on my own when i was instaling my new stereo. I used some felt tape i had lying around to do this TSB. It only took 10 minutes or so.

The plastic dash piece comes out rather easily.

1. Open ashtray.

2. Use fingers to carefuly pull the lower corners of the panel.(It takes a little force)If you have the center console shifter you may want to set your parking brake and put you shifter in 1st gear

3. Once the bottom 2 clips are out work your way up to the top. There are a total of 6 or 8 clips. 3 or 4 clips on either side. ( i am sure i will be corrected on this)

4. It will make it easier to remove the wires attached to the panel. You will then be able to set it off to the side.

I gaurntee you will be stressing out the first time you start to remove this panel, it does come off I have removed min about 5 or more times now.

Good luck

screw the tsb it wont fix it, dealer said all they would do is replace the ashtray. just pull off the radio cover, then there are two screws on either side of the ash tray. After that the ashtray should just come right out, put double sided tape/felt w/e on the three little nipples on the bottom, and a strip across the front. (you will be able to see where it has been rattling, there are obvious marks). now just put the whole assembly back in, you will have to press down hard if you use double sided tape as i did, put the screws in and the cover back on and your all done, no more annoying rattle. this fixed mine 100% and took all of 20 minutes.

I removed mine last night to install XM in the ashtray and just like he said, you can see dust and wear marks where the nipples that align the ashtray assembly into the console are rattling in the holes they sit in in the console.

huh? according to what you said, you followed the tsb exactly...

a few weeks ago, I followed the tsb and put tape on all three nipples, and haven't heard a rattle since.

I should have worded it differently. When i asked my dealer about this tsb on the ashtray rattle they said all they ever do is replace the whole ashtray assembly. I never have seen the exact tsb print out, but i followed the other post about this and someone towards the end had this fix, so i did it. I used thick double sided tape, as long as it dont rattle any more im good! I took apart the whole console trying to find the rattle, then i read here and come to find out its the ashtray. .
