IMO Volant is a TRUE cai as it is sealed from the engine heat (and the dynamat increases this insulation). If you ever go mudding or cross streams this also prevents crud from getting into your filter. It also can be modified to have a ram air tube installed. For those that have highly modified 4x4's but are afraid to get them dirty then the "open" CAI's would work fine. In my case I like to ford streams and mud bogs from time to time so its works fine for me.

Well i took the Volant intake off today.. I didnt feel like messing with sound deadening it and stuff. Im just going to try to return the intake and mabey go with an Airaid Jr. or somthing as i cant have an open filter under the hood.. (Way to hot in arizona along with city driving.)

K&N FIPK $200 with noticeable power gains and no noise, unless you WOT. Then it sounds nice.

I think the key is to damp the plate under the box. I happened to have some Dynamat laying around, so it wasn't a big deal to me...

Yea i had a feeling it had to do with the box being directly mounted to the sheet metal.. I just didnt want to mess with sticking sound deadner all over the place..

I'm also having this same issue with the noise. I noticed the tube contacting the firewall when I installed it and I think this may be the source of the noise. I removed the lid and it seemed to get better, but not totally gone. How have you guys that had interference with the firewall get the right clearance? I just don't see how I can make it fit any better, I was lucky to get it all put together right.

What dynamat are you using? on the crutchfield site they show various types and prices. I know nothing about it the different types except they are sound deadener, so any help is greatly appreciated!

I did both the plate under the box and inside the Volant box itself. I think I used one small package of Dynamat (4 sq. feet I think it was) is just enough to cover it. Since I did that, I get no drone at all.

I couldn't tell you, its about 3/16" thick, foil on one side and sticky black on the other.

I still have an extra piece ( about 18" X 24" ) enough to do a whole box.

I'd trade my Arraid for an AF1...

My Airaid drones under load between 1800-2000 RPM.. Annoying sometimes.. but nothing unbearable.
