Unhappy Thinking of Buying a 2005 Ford F-150

Looking at trading a Nissan Frontier V6 4.0 for a 2005 Ford F-150 XLT 4WD 5.4...

I am looking for a larger truck and more towing power for RV.

My question is why the Ford F-150? I like the looks and there is alot out there to add to it... BUT

I hear alot of storys of this trucks engine blowing up or shooting sparks plugs out. Elec windows stop working. and there more to read in this forums and on line... http://www.tgrigsby.com/views/ford.htm

Not to mention Ford is looking real bad now and do you think they could go out of business??? I don't think so but you never know???

I like the F-150 and looking at getting a real good deal on one but I read this stuff and get worried...

Let me know what your thoughts are...

Thanks....

Its a great truck. Does everything well. 5.4 is a great engine and has good towing torque. Best in class ride and quitest cabin. The Titanis a bit quicker but otherwise has nothing on the F150. Also gets good mpg for what it is.

...the anti ford page...
that might say it all hahaha

i've yet to read any posts on this forum of the new F150 shooting plugs or blowing up engines...
the 2004's had the first generation jitters- some vibrations, sluggishness- 2005 fixed those, have some minor issues here and there, but all in all still strong- 2006-2007 seem to have worked everything out. id suggest spending some time in this forum, read up on everything you want to know about (use the 'search this forum' button-
ford may be doing poorly right now, but i dont see them dropping off the face of the earth any time soon.
welcome to the site-

I agree I do like the Titan but I like The F-150 better. Looks better and better MPG but why so much hipe on the problems...

Read the Engine Threads here. Do these people really have these problems. I have owned Toyota, Honda and Nissan all my life and never have problems like that...

Spark plugs blowing out? I know there's the problem of spark plugs being seized and breaking off in the head, but not blowing out.

Engines blowing up? Havent heard of that either, if anything its engines hydrolocking due to fuel injectors failing stuck open and filling the cylinder with fuel. I guess a cracked piston/rod/block could be considered blowing up.

The 5.4 may not be very powerful, sound like a ticking diesel, vibrate, and get sub par fuel mileage...but it gets me down the road.

For the price I think the F150 is a great deal, but some of these guys paying $30k for one is these is crazy.

ok, so theres one thread 20-some posts, 1- guy with hydrolock at 45k miles.
im not seeing your point- all vehicles have problems- there are a few people who have hydro-locked the engine in the new fords- a few. if you're that worried about it, maybe anthony is right, don't buy one. the majority of the owners who share their experiences in this forum seem to be problem free on the catastophic end of things... J

my truck and engine are problem free- it runs, it hauls, it pulls- it has 25k miles on it and a tuner pushing up the engine output...

I agree why does FORD think these Trucks are made of gold. I have been to a couple of dealers here in Pensacola, FL and they act like everyone is buying these things and I know they are not... They have a big chip on there shoulders. You can walk in Nissan and they are nice and are up front with you. Matter of fact I am looking at this Ford F-150 at a Nissan Dealer.

I know all trucks and cars have problems. I just wanted to know if there were any reason not to buy a used 2005 Ford F-150 XLT 4WD with 25K on it and I have not seen any real reasons. I like the truck and probably will get it. and I am not paying no $30K + for it... I would never do that. I think $18999 is a deal for it...

silverbullet5.4 has a 2 wheel drive xlt that's why he didn't pay 30K. It really don't matter what brand they price them all somewhat the same depending on the trim level. That stuff in that link in your first post pretained to the last generation from what I read. If your needing it for towing I don't think you can do much better. I also think it ride the smoothest and looks the best. I auctually have always like chevy truck (not really liken the newer bodys as much) until I bought my first F150 back in 02, know I have an 05 and love it.

The only thing I would suggest is to replace the plugs on it soon. These have issues with them getting stuck.
