Mudding mabye?

i found a alright place to go mudding/trail riding today driving back from the gym. i may go tommorrow or this weekend, still debating

there is not alot of mud....but a good amount and water of course with it.

my question is, that ive never been mudding in my own truck, just in others, and am wondering what preperations i need to make.

and while this thread is open, is there any rear bumper or anyting to mount a spare tire on? i know fabtech has the bed one, but i dont wanna take up my bed with a spare.

Have a good rope and buddy with a truck in case you get stuck.

I could tell you about the post prep. Lots of water for the undercarrige and engine cleaning. These engines get crazy dirty. When its all said and done its all worth it

STS's are great in the sand, but besides that they are worthless.

My best advice.....don't get too stupid with a $40,000 truck. Don't try to be a hero and show your friend up using a daily driver. Find an old beater to do that with. That's what I did. Remember you need your truck running to get to school on Monday. That is the best advice I can give from my experience because whether you want to think so or not, stuff will get broken. As said above make sure you go with another truck and a tow strap or a winch.

Yeah, you'll need to take a good camera to take pics for us... Videos are even better.

Remember if you don’t get stuck your not trying hard enough.

Have fun...

Don't cheap out on your tow strap. Get about a 15,000 lb strap that is about 25' long and 4" wide. Wear shoes and clothes that you don't give a sheeit about. And make sure somebody will be able to make it out there if you get stuck before you go.

I can't believe your "debating" on whether or not to go muddin in that truck of yours.

yeah thats why i want my buddy and his jeep out with me. though not sure if he is able to pull my big a** out if i get stuck.
welll....only reason im depbating is because, i dont have my coilovers yet.
i mean if i go im not going to be going too hard cause i dont wanna break anyting and i have no coilovers yet.

its just so tempting. i wont be roading as hard as josiah i know........................yet.

Years ago I met a guy with an old Bronco; maybe a 67 or 68. He used to spray vegetable oil on the undercarriage. He used a plastic spray bottle from Walmart. After going muddin' he just pulled into the self car wash and hosed it off. Worked pretty well. But it did leave a light residue on some spots that weren't rinsed well enough.

I don't care what your buddy in the Jeep has he won't budge you if you're in a worthy stuck. I've had some pretty well modded and heavy (for what it's worth) Jeep's try to pull me out of a good stuck when I was stock. It wasn't happening, the weight of our trucks is 1.5x+ that of the heaviest Jeeps. A lifted Superduty on 35" Toyo's got stuck twice trying to pull me out, took about 10-12 hard yanks and he finally got me out. It was a crewcab harley F-250. This is all stock, you have a lift kit with 38's those are going to dig you down deep. Just bring big trucks, no Jeeps. That Superduty hardly budged me an inch each tug, I felt almost nothing in the truck and these were 5-7mph yanks throttling out.

Just to cover my *** what does this Jeep consist of?

Nothing less than a Superduty or crewcab F-150 (new body style) is going to have a chance of pulling you out unless it's a small stuck.

Don't be surprised when you get stuck in some shallow mud, cause those tires aren't gonna do a very good job of propelling you through the mud. They will turn into slicks real quick and you will just be sitting there spinning your tires. So with that said I would do it but just have someone ready to pull you out.

yeah i know, ill bring some other buddies.

ummm not sure about this engine mods at the time, but i know he has some. he has a superwinch, has air lockers, 37" krawlers, full traction 6 inch rock-ready lift, the nromal stuff, rock sliders, front bumper, rear bumper, ummm....forgot what his axles are, he replaced them though. has has a 3-speed tranny. alot more...just cant think of it off the top of my head at the moment. he has won a good amount of competitions though.

josiah what do you do to prepare for mudding and so forth? anything? and what should i look out for?

I will second that. I got my work truck (94 F150 4X4 with 33's, 4.10 posi front and locked rear) stuck one day when I went playing in the mud. I actually bottomed out on the frame when the front end hit a hole, the front was in about 12" of mud with 18-20" of water on top and the rear was in 6-8" of mud with 4-5" of water on top of it. I called my father to have him come pull me out, he had a 99 F350 4X4 7.3L PSD, supercab, long box, dually with posi rear (pic of the truck in my gallery) and running basically new BFG A/T's at the time. He was in about 4" of mud trying to pull me out, it took 9-10 hard jerks with the tow strap for him to get me out. And that was with a 8000+lb truck, not a 3000-3500lb Jeep.

Even if your buddies Jeep is fully locked and running big mud tires (37"+) he still will not be able to pull your truck out when you get stuck. Just because he can basically make it through any mud hole you can find doesn't mean that he can pull you out once you are stuck, since mud basically creates a vaccum it takes alot more force to pull something out that is stuck in it.
