Question Looking For A Reference

Hello all, Can anyone reccomend a shop that will remove my 4x4 rear blocks? I am in the greater Los Angeles area (310). 4Wheelparts in Van Nuys quoted me $120. I know most of you have done it yourselves and explained to me how to do it myself and I tried so don't ask! I just need to find a shop to do it.

Thank you,
Dan

I have used Prowler's speed and Customs in the past. They gave me great service and a fair price. They are located in Santa Clarita. Phone number is (661) 288-5757

It sounds like you haven't been around wrenches too much. :-) Just messing with you! It is very simple to take out the blocks, you will mainly just be paying for their time. Ask a couple shops, but if someone asked me to do it I would probably say about 100. That seem fair. I am sure you can find someone that will do it for less if you go to a private shop instead of 4WP.

Well, I tried once, but I was jacking the truck up on the axle, and thought the two nuts on the top were to be loosened as well and so on. Then I came back on here and asked for help which I got, so then after only after buying a heavier duty 3 ton floor jack, heavy duty hammer, running around, buying the 2WD U bolts, a new 21mm socket, I find out that the jack didn't lift the truck high enough to release the tension and loosen the block enough to knock out, I gave up. My girlfriend told me not to tell you guys I couldn't do it, because it sems so damn easy and you'd all laugh, but I just couldn't gedder done! and I mean I used to be in the Air Force as a Crew Chief so it's not like I am not that blonde when it comes to mechanical stuff but maybe so. Anyway, I'll call that shop you guys reccomended.

OK,someone please clear things up for me. I just got off the phone with 4WP and the legendary Off-Road Unlimited and neither will remove the rear blocks. The manager at 4WP just said he won't do it and ORU said that there isn't 2 pins on the axles or something like that. Now I know some of you have done this mod but now I am thinking shackles is the way to go. Are you guys doing this mod even though the most well known shops aren't recomending it?

Why the heck wouldn't they do it?? It is about one of the easiest things I have ever done.......IF you have the correct tools so I see where you are comming from there. Don't waste your money on drop shackles, trust me, this is a free mod besides the cost of the shorter U-bolts...I call it free because you *could* just cut the old ones off 2 inches and re-thread them. All I did was lift the complete truck up......put the rear frame on jack stands, take the U-bolts off and drop the axle down and pull out the blocks, then jack back into place. I don't know what all the fuss is over these pins, I never even payed attention to them or something because they weren't in the way. Anyway, good luck!

Please disregard my previous posts, I contacted that shop you reccomended in Santa Clarita, and then they refered me to Big John's and after talking with them, I have decided the best and safest way to drop the rear is to go with Bell Tech Shackles.

Numerous guys have pulled the blocks. Some 2wd guys have installed some in their trucks to achieve 4wd heigth. Just pull the blocks out and it'll be like a 2wd, not a big deal, really.

Styxnpicks and Stealth, sure a lot of guys have removed the blocks but it doesn't mean it's the best way or safest way. You say it is not a big deal but when not one shop will do it that must mean something. To me that IS a big deal. The thread isn't retarted because I am asking for a reference for a shop to do it. Don't you find it odd that not one person on the forums can produce a reference or that when I call the three best shops in southern California none of them will do it and advise strongly againt it? We got side tracked as is always the case on these forums, the intitial thread wasn't to remove the blocks or not to remove, butrather I simply asked for a reference. Even on F150.net there are guys that are against removing the bocks. Each person does mods in the way they see fit as I am doing here.
