I'm looking for a kit to lower my 2004 SCREW 2" in the front and 4" in the rear. I had been set on the McGaughy's kit but I've read of a few people on here w/ that kit that have broken leaf springs due to wheel hop w/ that kit. Then I was thinking DJM but then read today that Azmidget91 has has had issues due to wheel hop. So I have a feeling it has more to do w/ lowering the truck than any specific lowering kit. I can fab up some traction bars So hopefully I can avoid those issues. My question is, for those of you w/ knowledge about lowering kits, what kit do you suggest and what is a good price/place to buy from? I would really like to keep the factory ride as much as possible. I know altering the suspension is obviously going to change it but still, I'd like to keep a fairly "cushy" ride. I've been searching the net and prices seem to be all over the place. I'd rather spend a bit more for a better kit than save a few pennies now and suffer for it later down the road.

 

with you only wanting to lower 4" in the rear you will not have to worry about the wheel hope issues everybody is having using flip kits . You can get 4" with hangers and shackles and still use the factory spring perches. I believe that this is the case. anybody confim this?

 

I agree ive got 4.5" drop on my truck in the rear and no hopping issues. hangers and shackles.

I think its b.c you cut the factory spring perch off, and then you dont weld the new one in, b.c its just a collar.....

I like the ground force 9944. I was looking into getting one of those but I decided on shackles instead for now.

I have the Ground Force 9933 kit which lowers the truck 2"/5". I love the look & feel of driving it. If my truck sits for a few days, it takes a few minutes for the hard feeling of driving it to come back to normal. The guy at the shop says the springs need to readjust or loosen up.

 

I have the Eibach Pro Truck kit. 2/4 drop with coils in front and new leaf springs in back. I just installed the Toxic drop shocks and the ride is very nice.

 

I have the 9944 Ground Force kit and I love the way it rides. I also tow a 6000lb boat with no problems. I like this kit because it replaces the rear spring. It is a 2/4 drop.

 

if you like the "cushy" ride then the djm is great yeah i had wheel hop problems but i also have a 1"drop shackle as well as the flip, i drive my truck HARD and the broken hanger is most likely due to that, some simple and easy to make traction bars will solve any problem, one great advantage of the djm kit is the adjustable pinion angle, instead of ground force guessing how much your pinion needs to be adjusted(ive heard of the shims not being big enough)

also on the newer model trucks they dont make drop hangers....so its either 1-2" drop shackle or flip or leafs

 

When I was looking at the McGaughy's kit, McGaughy's says you need to use a carrier bearing relocator but I haven't seen any other manufacturers say anything about this. Is it needed or not? Why is McGaughy's the only company ever mention needing this part?

 

If you use 2" coils you will need the camber kit to align the vechicle properly. No way around it, I guess Mcgauhty is the only one nice enough to mention it.

The Ground force 9944 kit comes with a carrier bearing relocator. The McGaughy's kit you have to buy it extra, doesn't come with the kit, that's why they say something about it.

 

djm says 4" you dont need it and 5" you do, i dont have it and my pinion angle is fine

Do you have the DJM 2-1/2in drop arms up front? If so, did you have to trim the tie rods? The directions on the DJM site indicate that you have to do it for the 3-1/2in arms, but says nothing about the 2-1/2. I have been leaning this direction to retain the stock ride quality. Also, did you have to get the cam bolts for the alignment? Overall, what is your opinion of the product?

I used to have the McGaughy's kit on my truck. Flip kit and all and I had no problems. Nothing broken.

 

hmmm i didnt read this when i bought the kit. im not a suspension guy so what exactly is this? ive had my Mcgaughys lowering kit for almost a yr and no problems(knock on wood) and i wind it up most of the time
