P0172 - Engine Light came on

Hey Guys,

Well I had the engine icon light up on the truck while driving to Thanksgiving dinner.

I pulled the code with the Xcal2 and it said P0172.

Anyone know what this means?

I have a 91 oct tune from Troyer Performance and their 3.25" AF1. I had it dyno'd and I am running off the charts rich. However, Neil at Troyer performance said it was safe to drive until Mike takes the time to re-work the tunes.

I went ahead and cleared the code and it didn't come back on during my 30 minute drive home.

Any help with knowledge of this code?

Thanks,

Duke

Answered my own questions by searching google.com.

P0172 OBD-II Trouble Code
Technical DescriptionSystem Too Rich (Bank 1)

What does that mean?Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a rich condition (too little oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.

Note: This DTC is very similar to P0175, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

SymptomsYou will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a misfire.

I seem to remember you were running rich on your dyno sheets? Maybe Mike can do an adjustment to your program?

Without seeing your fuel trims for each bank, there ain't no telling what exactly your problem is.

Being that your truck is a 2005 though, I'd strongly suspect a possible injector problem if it's not related to the tuner somehow.

Well actually the truck dyno sheets show an A/F ratio that is off the charts rich.

I'm going to talk with Mike on Monday and we need to get a fix for this ASAP as this shouldn't be happening.

Does the XCAL 2 not come with the list of codes and what they mean? Even the crappy 1714 I had came w/ the book of codes and what they meant. Doesn't do much good to pull a code and have to look it up on the net or stop by a dealer or parts store to find out what the code is telling you....... I have the EDGE now and now that I think about it, I dont remember seeing the codes and meanings w/ it either. I dont know if I missed it or it just wasn't there. I do still have the 1714 and books so.......
