Pirelli Scorpion ATR vs BFG T/A KO

.

I've had a set of BFG T/A KO's on my truck since new. 285/70R 17's and absolutely love them. I've got around 70k miles on them now and although I've still got a good 1/4 inch of tread I'm starting to look for new tires.

I really like this size and don't want to go any smaller. The best tire I'm finding are the Pirelli Scorpion ATR's for $180 each. The BFG's are $215. Does anyone have any experience with the Pirelli's? Anything I'm missing?

I'm considering something with a smoother tread as I do put on a lot of road miles but also venture off road occasionally.

In my experience with both tires...stick with what works best. If you have the BFG A/T and have 70K on them, why change that up? BFG A/T is the best all-around tire I have ever owned for daily driver/occaional hunting trip. This is just my opinion but the BFG is just a proven winner with my experience.

I don't think that Pirelli is even close to comparing to the BFG AT KO.

Your right - the Pirelli is far better.

I'm going to have to back up Wandell up on this. The Pirelli Scorpion ATR looks like a car tire, not something I would trust offroad. The Pirelli Scorpion ATR would be a good tire, IF you didn't go offroad. But, he already stated he does go offroad occasionally. I would stick to the BFGs, 70,000 miles isn't too bad on a set of tires either.

Oh, I dunno - for occasional off-roading, it will *probably* do just fine. Have you seen the road tests? And on the street, no comparison in ride/handling, IMHO. Cheaper too

Cheers

Who knows what occasional offroading means for him anyways? It could mean 44" Bogger ruts or a dirt road. How long do the Scorpions last?

The Pirelli is considered a performance tire and will not give you alot of mileage. You are really talking about apples and oranges here. In your situation, I would go with the BFG's.

I just put on BFG AT KO's so I am biased here. They are definately rougher than the stocker Goodyears - we have newly paved highways around here, but I would buy them again no problem. It all depends on what you want - looks and use wise. Not really an apples to apples comparision here, there are definate ride quality issues between the two for what you are using them for.

I believe a member recently reported that a large number of the new Pirelli's were being replaced for failures on new Fords. I'm not saying Pirelli makes a bad tire. I'm just saying I havn't heard anything positive about that model. Every company makes a cheap line.

They have the Pirelli listed as their All-Terrain tire. I know the BFG tire has a more aggressive tread but I guess I'm considering something a little smoother if I really thought it would be better on the road. Again, I'm Extremely happy with the AT's and will most likely get them again. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

As far as off-roading goes, I don't think people realize what you can get into with fairly stock tires on a capable vehicle.

I appreciate the input.

Well, I went with the BFG's again and am SO GLAD I did. They had a set of the Scorpion's mounted on an F150 at the dealer ship and they just had no Tread on them. I can't believe they call them an "All Terrain" tire.

Wow, My tires were worn. I swear my truck sits another inch and a half higher now. And they Ride Sooo nice. Really there's no reason to not get these tires. They ride nice. They're quiet. And they last Forever!

My old 1990 bronco I brought the previous owner had Pirelli scropions on it. After the first snowfall with them they were replaced with BFG A/T ko. I wasn't impressed.. MY 2004 has the Scropion ATRs but they wont see off road and I have a set of BFG A/T for the winter

one of my buddies wants a set of those for his Ranger, and he can't decide between Radial and non-radial
