What was that? Engine Hesitation?

Hey ya'll,

So, I'm trying to pull out of a fast food place on to a 4 lane highway(2 each way plus a turning lane). It was about 4:30 and it's the highway that takes everyone from the city out of town and it was a boat load of traffic.

Here is what happened...

I saw an opening and knew I would have to put the throttle all the way down to make it. I drop the hammer and pull out and everything was going as planned when(under full throttle)... No engine power. Didn't make to 2nd I do not think. I got out of the throttle and it it all came back.

Was this due to my 18" Mag and lack of back pressure. I'm still confused as to what happened?

Sorry to ramble on. Any thoughts?

Troyer tuned x-cal coming soon. I hope this never happens again. My heart about stopped.

Raise the RPM's too quickly and the PCM will cut everything out to protect the engine.

FoMoCoFan17... I too have experienced this. I even took my truck to the dealership.. after explaining what happened (full throttle acceleration while turning left or right engine would just die) I was told this IS a NORMAL function of this new drive by wire system. I DID NOT like the feeling either. I now just try not to put myself in those situations. It has taken me some time getting acustomed to this on the NEW F-150's. My wife drives a foreign vehicle with this technology and there is no lag and no "fuzzy areas" like the F-150 has. I hope FORD will continue to refine this new stuff, I really like everything about my truck except for this "drive by wire" throttle system. BoB

My truck was shutting down at higher rpms due to the shift settings being set to high! Computer hit rev limeter and went into protection mode. I to have experienced this shutdown with less than a quarter tank of gas. After installing tuner with proper settings I have had no problems...

mine only does that when low on gas the other weird thing is total lack of power when trans is manually put in first and you take off haha fords idea to keep drivetrain in one piece ..must be weak link somewhere they are trying to protect

I'm not so sure about that.

My 2004 did the same thing but my 2006 is completely different, plenty of power in 1st. However 2nd is the samn damn thing, ghetto traction control.

A turner will take care of this little problem. I use to have a problem getting on the the interstate....I'd floor it and the truck would take off....then would bog down like it was pulling 12,000 pounds.
