We have two cats, so its a no go. But you could always just buy some Hi-Flow cats and replace the stock ones.

04-05 have 4 cats, the 06 only have 2, as do the 07's I believe.

Jeez. There's only one answer here dude. IMCO 1 chamber muffler. Don't waste time with the 40 Series, it won't be loud enough. Just put on an IMCO 1 chamber muffler.

i have the 2 rear cats removed 3 inch piping from the "y" to the single chamber imco then 3 inch out to a 4 inch tip that exits infromt of my rear wheel . I sounds awsome not to loud in the cab but out side is another story ! . but im over it and bored now and im messing with the whole truck again ! im going to run true duals, 2 dyno max bullet mufflers and throw in an x pipe and duals out in from of the rear tire. its almost a copy of the exhaust that is offered by www.slponline.com i will try and get pics and video asap , i am also running a afe stage 2 intake which helps alot , but have removed the edge , and i am getting a custom chip burnt at the local shop after .

Close... Appearenly some of the 05's have 4 cats, but mine has the 2. I do believe you are correct in saying that 04's have 4 cats.

Check out this https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=252292 thread for my true dual SISO original series flowmaster sound clips...

They must have switched part way through the model year then, since one of my buddies has an 05 and his is just like mine, 4 cats. But his brother has an 06 and only has 2 cats. I really wonder why they switch stuff like this

yea im kinda curious why ford dropped two cats? If they didnt need four cats to pass emissions originally why would they have put four?

I can understand ford removed them so that they can get more power out of the 5.4 since people complain about its lack of power, however if that is the cause that means they never really needed 4 in the first place? Just doesnt make sense to me..

jangeloni, I have been pushing around the idea of doing a setup just like yours, true duals with the 2 rear cats removed-glass packs and SS tips out the behind the rear wheels. The only thing that I would maybe do different is to put in an X-pipe. Did you see any gains in performance with yours? How loud is it? (what can you compair it to?) Also if you don't mind me asking, how much did your cost? I was quoted $550 for what I described above.

Thanks!!
Paul

I've got that except for removing the rear cats... met a guy with the same thing you describe and it sounded great. He also had an intake and an edge, so that could make an impact too...

My exhaust cost $240. An x pipe will mellow out the sound at least it did on my mustang. my pipe is 2-1/4" if i did it again i would go with 2-1/2" and shorter glass packs (mine are 30") . My last truck had flow master 40's my setup now sounds much deeper and louder at top end but i think the 4" tip's make all the difference!

Flow master's sound so much better on a cammed motor!

Here's what not to do... way too quiet!

On my 07' 5.4 Liter extra cab short bed I have installed true duals and exited them in the stock location. I installed 2.5" pipe with a xpipe right behind the cross member and installed (2) Dynomax Super Turbo 2.5" dual mufflers. It now sounds quieter than stock. This is not what I wanted... After 18 hours worth of cutting and welding and measursing, I am not a happy camper. So I am going to remove the mufflers and install straight pipes and if that sounds like crap, I will try Spin Tech race mufflers... I think the x pipe I made will help the flow but it killed the tone. I would really like to duplicate the late model Mustang GT sound! But I don't want that dreeded drone in the cab or too loud as this is a daily driver... Any suggestions?
