Amp Mounting

So i have 2 amps i need to mount under the passenger side rear seat. I need to mount one amp facing up mounted to the floor board. And one amp facing down mounted on the bottom of the seat. Has anyone done this before, how exactly did they do it?

Most people just mount their amps behind the rear seats. It's not that difficult to do. There are many of pictures in different peoples gallery's. Go check out brypink2's. I know he has a great picture of his back seat out and all of his amps mounted on that rear wall.

You DO NOT want to mount an amp "facing down" on the bottom of the seat.

See all those "fins" on the top of the amp? Those allow the amp to release heat. If you put the amp upside down, the heat will rise into the amplifier, causing an early death.

Plenty of room behind the seat to mount them against the back wall. Still not as good as flat, right side up, but they also will be more protected...balances out to be highly in favor of behind the seat.

Good point on the upside down part... I didn't even think of that. I cant mount them behind the seat because I am always adjusting my system, and i cannot take my backseat out everytime i want to readjust.

Get an EQ to compliment your system, and you'll never need to access your amps again.

I wouldn't recommend mounting on the back wall, depending on the quality of the install you could pick up a lot of noise through the wires or the amp being metal on metal.

I went through the same thing with my SCREW and decided to mount one under each seat. Its worked out well bc:

1) I have a smaller 200 watt Kicker amp under the driver's side that fits well even with the seat motors, the 4 channel is a 85x4 kicker that sits under the front passenger. The amps are low enough that you can still adjust the seat position over it. I'm fairly tall so my seats are pretty far back too which keeps them less visible.

2) My install guy put a small section of mdf wood to mount the amps to so they stay in place well.

Also, its not necessary to keep the heat sinks (metal fins) on the amp itself, if they're removable. They do work to a degree but they take up more space than its worth. I was worried about them heating up but being in TX too I typically run the vent or A/C so both amps actually stay cool with the air blowing from the vent under each seat.

Id mount one under front passenger seat, and the other under the rear passenger seat.

This is very true...do not mount amps upside down....for the reason OnBelay said and the circuitry in an amp (like a circuit board) can warp from the heat because gravity is pulling down on it. Most amps are meant to be installed vertical or horizontal (right side up).

What's up OnBelay?

Run them at full and adjust at the HU. Get a versatile HU and you'll be golden.

Also, once you set your amp properly (w/ a DMM), there should be no need to go back in and mess with it...if you have it set at full and controlling it at the HU.

You don't think I take my seat back off everytime I need to tweak something do you???? lol

I've already got a head unit. I thought I was more happy with it than i really am. It looks great but is not as versatile as I thought in its adjustability although it does have HPR and HPF and LP filters i dont like to touch them because it makes it sound bad... the main thing i dont like is it has 2.5 pre amp volts which is low from what i understand...

You should save up and get the W200/H701 combo...I'm really impressed with mine. Talk about being super flexible...go over to Alpine and check it out for yourself.

I wouldn't worry about the low pre-out voltage...the normal individual won't use it all anyway. You will just have to use a little more gain...thats all.

If you run balanced lines (like my symbilink) it doesn't matter what they are anyway. Another reason I like Zapco with Symbilink.

LOL 10k...Is that all???? I think I've dropped that just in my stereo alone.

Not quite that much, but if you were to add up everything (stereo related) that I've spent on this truck past and present...I bet it's close to 10k. lol

I don't even want to get into how much I've spent on other mods.
