People With Headers, Need Help!

Ok, heres my problem, every one know that this engine makes a ticking noise stock. Well i put the JBA headers on my truck and no the ticking noise is alot louder, is this something normal to expect with headers?

Most people don't inspect their gaskets and just throw them on assuming everything is alright, you may have an exhuast leak.

Where did you buy them from? There is a difference from fuel injectors ticking and exhaust...

Could be 1 of 2 things or both.

1) You had an exhaust leak and now it's worse frome either not replacing your exhaust gaskets or from damaging the surface when removing the old gaskets.

2) Whatever was making the noise before is now just louder because you're hearing it through the metal of a header which is about 1/4 the thickness of your original cast manifolds.

I'd bet on #2. The real culprit is probably some valvetrain noise... maybe a sticking or damaged exhaust valve.

Dude, I don't think they used silicone. If they did they have no right working on a engine. Do you know what kind of temperatures the exhaust manifolds or headers see? There is no silicone that will maintain a seal when exposed to that high temperature and if they used silicone then you have a leak.

If that is true, it is definitely one sheer act of stupidity. Have someone put the gasket in, and be sure that the surface is free of damage.

I got the headers check for leaks by two exhaust Shops, and there were no leaks they were seal tight and they also said that the fords are metal to metal with manifold and that is it normal to use the silicone when mountig headers, they also said it is a high temp silcone used that has copper in it to keep from burning away, both shops said that the noise i hear is the injectors ticking but the header amplify it more due to that they are thinner in thick ness compared to the manifold.
