TPS modification

Has anybody tried this free mod on their 04 & up? If so, what was the outcome? Gonna try it later today. Just wondering what everyone's experience was with this mod.....Iric

Hi.

Is there even TPS on an ECT-equipped vehicle?

I don't think this is gonna do anything ...

I would not mess with any ECT components for safety reasons.

Cheers

Ah! Yeah. It's just we're putting new coversheets on all the TPS reports before they go out now. So if you could go ahead and try to remember to do that from now on, that'd be great. All right!

getting back to the subject here,

DON"T DO IT!!!!!!!

my truck had to be towed to the dealership(luckily it was covered under warranty, and when i acted dumb about it, they said the TPS just went bad.)

long story short, after not being able to find the correct window of base voltage to work off of, I used wht i thought was right, and tried to adjust the sensor, only to find the truck struggling to stay at idle.

after trying to get back to the original position, the truck would barely stay at idle and there was absolutely no response from the gas pedal.

just my 2 pennies.

I think he meant the throttle rod grinding thing. Where you cut off half the width of the throttle rod down.

they're two completely different things. the TPS monitors your throttle position, and provides the butterfly with the correct position, hence throttle positioning sensor.

if you adjust it to .98 milivolts, you gain better response in the pedal. some are set at .96, .97 from the factory, and most claim that its that slight adjustment that makes the difference.

the butterfly rod is something that you would actually strip out of the housing, and mill it down (grind sounds so harsh) so its more oval than round, intern, affecting the amount of air your able to get through that throttle body.

might as well just spend the $250 for the new 70mm TB if you're going down that road in terms of modifications.

I know the difference between the rod and the TPS, belive me i know b.c when i put in a P&P stock TB, it ran like *** until i put my old tps back in. And then ontop of that i didnt even have the bad one installed all the way.

I hadnt ever heard of the tps mod, not really something i want to try to tune, but just curious how do you tune it? And is it 04+ only?

Hi. Actually, it just under 1 volt ( 0.9955 volts - not millivolts) - and the reason folks adjusted it on pre-04 non-ETC trucks was because some came from the factory set out of spec.

On an ETC vehicle ( e.g. 5.4 L 3V) the throttle is actuated by a stepper motor and the feedback for it's position is an integrated, closed loop system. SELF-correcting, and NOT adjustable.

****ing with any system over which you have no direct manual control - no throttle cable in this case, is just asking for trouble and is plain dumb, IMHO.

This mod buys you NOTHING - no perf gains, no response, NADA.
