Question Has anyone had their windshield leak?

Hi, I'm new here. I just got a new 06' F-150 XLT 4x4 on Monday, and I believe the windshield is not sealed properly. When I'm on the Interstate going 60-70 mph it sounds like the Defrost is wide open. I can hear the wind gusting and changing pitch. Has anyone had this problem? I thought the new F-150's were supposed to have the quietest cabins on the market? Other than this one problem I LOVE this dangum truck!

I would take it to the dealer, must be something going on. Maybe have them take one on the lot for a ride for comparison. I just recently picked up a rock chip that cause a short crack of about 3" to the top of my windshield and the wind noise generated went from not noticeable to what you described.....like the defroster is on high. I wouldn't think a little crack would cause that much noise, but it is very annoying.

Yep mine does it, has since new. They resealed the windshield without actually removing it and it didnt do any good. I still need to get back there to make them do it again, it's the reason I have a warranty in the first place.

Take it back to the dealer for a air and water test... windshield maybe not seated properly or a gap in the sealer from the factory....

A windshields is made of two layers of glass and plastic layer in the middle....that why its a safety glazing material....
a rock chip on the outside layer is not going to give a leak, air or water.... unless both layers of glass are cracked from the impact of the rock.... inside and outside, then only if the inside is across a pinchweld seal area

Thanks for the help Guys. I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow morning. I figured the windshield wasn't sealed properly from the factory. I hate having to spend a day at the dealership. By the way, this is a great website with good people. I'm glad I switched corporate identities!

ask for a courtesy ride to work, home, the mall,- wherever and a courtesy pick-up when the truck is done if you don't have a return ride...they understand your time is valuable--well should at least...

no problem, glad to help, I find many OEM installed glass with defective seals and gaps in the seals... mostly at the bottom, this is where the robot on the assembly line starts and stops the seal...

I have to laugh to myself when customers say "I hate to have my windshield replaced, it can't be installed as good as the factory one"

Sorry to say, after 24 years in the glass industry, I have to disagree, it can be installed better than factory..... when Quality Materials, Sealers are used and most importantly, an installer that CARES about the quality of his or her workmanship on the install....

I am going to have to find a shop to replace my windshield, do you have any reccomendations on any national chains? Just wondering, I know nothing about this subject or even if they all use the same supplier. I am hoping I can get one that has the F150 decal (or whatever that is) like the stock one.

i used cascade auto glass (www.cascadeautoglass.com or 1800 320 5358)
my deductible is 100, i paid that to cascade, then a week later they refunded half my payment (as that is their deal) so got a brand new Ford brand (carlite) F-150 3rd visor windshield for $50...

If you are referring to urethane (Black hard sealer) oozed out from the top of the molding to the body, this is a sloppy install and should have been clean off before it dried

If you referring to black butyl or clear sticky hot melt (both are used depending on glass manufacture) coming from the molding across top between the molding and glass, its used the hold the molding in place and is more prevalent to ooze in the heat..

The molding is a cosmetic gap filler and has nothing to do with the windshield seal....you spray glass cleaner across the top and run a razor blade on the glass right beside the molding and get most off, but, it will return... after a few cleaning it will be less and less returning or oozing....

this was a BIG PROBLEM on mopar products... and still is....

I think its the 'black butyl' it was REAL sticky, almost like a tar type of substance, I cleaned it off and it hasn't been back since. Although we haven't had any hot weather since than.
