I would love HIDs, but from the factory... I saved my self the headache and did the SS bulbs. It says 1 year life span. 40 bucks for brighter light... I'll take it. Too bad they don't make the ultra's tho

Unless you do it right and get a retro fit, it's not worth it IMO and that money could be spent somewhere else on my truck

Retro fit, is the correct way to do it, but my truck lights the road a lot better than it was stock and i don't bother on coming traffic, so yes it works really nice.

Silverstars = Halogen
Hella's = Xenon

correct!?

Wouldn't the Hellas be better then!? I have only used the Silverstars and they are just ok, nothing significantly better though.

This is just my 2 cents as I have dabbled with this a bit:

Regular halogen bulbs are $12.99 each and last for years. Some people say they dim over time. Mostly the packages of the Silver Stars and PIAA say this.

Silver stars don't appear to last very long and cost $39.99. There are some new "Ultra" ones that claim to last longer but of course they cost more too. $59.99 for the pair.

PIAA are the most expensive at $99.99 for a pair. I bought these because some people said they last longer than the Silverstars. My conclusion on them is that they are a little bit brighter but that may just be the perception because they are a little whiter but not anywhere near what HID's are. I don't think that for 10 times the price you get 10 times the performance. I guess I am a little disappointed for the amount of money they cost.

If you really want bright lights then I guess you should get the HID's. But for the cost of brighter bulbs I don't think it's worth it.

Now, if you just want your truck to look cool by having lights that are a whiter color that's a whole other issue.....

Um - 'Halogens' are a periodic group classification ( no specific gas specified by Sylvania(?) ) - Xenon is just a member of another group (Noble gases) .

So no - not 'better', really. I suspect it's 99% Marketing. 'Xenon' sounds ever-so more Exotic (Warrior Princess!)

Try Philips X-Treme power bulbs. Upgraded my 2010 FX-4 as well as I did my Porsche Boxster a year ago. There is a big difference as to the amount of light shone down the road. Just my 2 CDN cents ...
