Whistling at 75+ MPH? Common?

Smoke candle is probably out of the question, but I might be able to get a hold of an SPL meter... distinct possiblity there.

Thanks again for your participation. Hope there's no hard feelings (not on part anyway).

I was just explaining why I had posted the original post as I did.

Matt, you put on a stock grille from an 06 and it whistled? (just asking cause your sig shows a billet). Was it the stock honeycomb?
Might be the culprit right there. If you had no whistling, installed a stock grille and got whistling... well? LOL! Another reason for me to pick up a new grille!

My upper grille is a stock grille. Like the harley davidson grilles that ppl are puttin on their trucks, this one is the one off the chrome edition package that they offered starting in 06'. I know the whistle is the grille, I just don't know where it comes from. It is very high pitched, like that noise you can make with your teeth by blowing just right. It only comes in at above 60 and continues at a higher pitch as I speed up.
So did you ever get the noises fixed? My '04 sounds like crap from 40mph up. Dealer tried to fix but now says it's normal. I don't think so...... Trying one more dealer and then gonna have to call Ford.
I wish I had something positive to report.
At first my dealer looked at me like I was nuts. Then I tool them for a ride and they heard it.
They said it was normal. Which seems to be the default reply when they have no clue what is wrong.
I can not isolate the location. I've taped up the fog lights, wiper cowl, wipers, grill, the area where the top of the windshield forms a drip channel up at the corner of the windshield. To no avail.
A buddy of mine has a similar issue with his Ford Explorer. He says its the satellite radio antenna. And I have one of those from the factory. I can't get rid of that and I can not isolate that as the cause.
So, I'm just living with it and learning to tune it out.
Let me know if you gain any ground.
Thanks.

dear god, someone PLEASE find a fix to this! Its driving me nuts! I just bought an '05 s-crew. I loved this truck on day one. I've only had it a month now, and between the roof rattle and this #$%@$#^ whistling noise, I'm ready to drive it off a cliff! PLEASE HELP!
Try this.
Get a spray bottle. Fill partially with water and put some dawn dish soap in it. Shake it up untill it's foamy.
Start the truck, turn on the A/C full blast, and spray the foamy water solution all around the windshield. If it's leaking, it WILL bubble up.
Go ahead and spray the 3rd brake light too. All around it. If it bubbles up.. it's leaking.
If you get no bubbles from around the windshield.. I don't know what it is.
Mine howls awful when it gets cold out.. around freezing. I forget about it during the summer.

thanks for the info... i'll try that. mine is definitely not related to temp. (or at least i hope not - its about 90º here right now. if it gets worse in the winter, i'll blow this thing up!)
im pretty much convinced its an air leak somewhere. when i bought the truck, it had a cheapo hood protector/air deflector on it. never noticed the noise when it was on, but i hated the look of it so i took it off. now the noise is horrible. i have GOT to get this fixed... i won't even go into how pissed i am about the roof rattle... #@#%&$* !!!!!!

I know what it it! I know what it is. I have had the same issues since day one and I have had it in the dealer 5 times for them to figure it out! I was sooo pissed by the 4th time. I like many of you have searched up and down this forum and any other f150 forum I could find. The only thing I found was some foam around the windshield but that was not it. I had the whole window area taped without any luck. But if you take it into the dealer and tell them about it, and tell them top put some double sided tape up between your grill and your hood. That will do the trick...I will go get pictures of where the dealer put the tape. They had one of the ford engineers come out and isolate this for me.
