Question Puff or No Puff

Hey guys and gals. Trying to get everyone to respond to see if this is a problem that Ford needs to be aware of. The question is; Do you notice a puff of white smoke from your exhaust when starting your cold 5.4. A few of us in another thread have noticed this; I just had 2 injectors fail and were changed out (luckily, under warranty).

When did you first notice puff? Day I brought truck home.

Any injectors change out? 2

What mileage did all occur? Injectors failed at 29900. Two weeks ago.

Did you notice any times where engine was hard to start or missing, then would clear up? A couple of times in the last 6 months.

Thanks for everyone's input

A little white smoke is normal on cold starts. There is usually condensation(moisture) dripping out of the tail pipe(s) until the engine and exhaust pipes heat up.

That is normal from what I know. However I've seen white smoke @ WOT on the beach. Might have been the water smoking from the tailpipes.

Question

44,000 no problems with injector failure. What causes an injector to fail? Design? Production problem? Internal failure? Contamination? Any thoughts?

'05 5.4, 33K miles. One puff that I noticed last week, def. not moisture as it STUNK. I get the pinging, have noticed 2 or 3 mis-starts in the past 2 months. Dealer says not to worry, normal, etc. Didn't even put it on the diagnostic machine and refused to re-flash. Grrrr.

I have roughly 9000 miles on my 05. I'm going to stop buy the dealer today and see what they say.

(Stunk) That's the kicker I forgot to mention. Even if smoke is normal as in condensation, it should have very little smell to it. If it's an injector problem, you will smell the fuel. I'd go back to your dealer and tell him BS, that it ain't right. Good luck.
