High Idle surge on startup??

On my '05 when I start up first thing in the morning or any cold start for that matter my truck idles really high for about 5-6 secs then goes to normal. Anyone else experience this?

Yep. I figure it's the engine warming itself up.

Yup it shoots up to 1500-1600 rpms then takes about 20 seconds to climb down to normal rpms.

Yes, I have this as well. It's incredibly annoying when my exhaust is @ 1600rpms @ 6 in the morning. Same boat as you.

Check out page 190 in the owners manual:

That's normal. It helps light the catalysts off faster on cold start. Don't worry about it.

If you dont like the sound, just drop it into gear. it drops imediatly.

Some ppl wait for the rpm to drop on their own, but im usually leaving late to go somehwere so yah i just go right into drive.

And mines about 30-35 seconds before its down to normal idle speed.
