has the spark plug breakage problem been fixed???

Hey all, I haven't been on here for a while and couldn't find an answer to this on the search. Are they doing anything different on the new trucks rolling out of the factory or are they just continuing to make the same problem engines like they did making the blowout motors from 97-03????

I am talking about the problem of spark plugs breaking off when it comes time to take them out to change them on the 04-06 motors- just to clarify.

And i assume all of the new 3-valve motors use this same spark plug design???.

The reason i am asking is we may be in the market for a new super duty with one of the 3-valve engines in the future. Allthough our 98 light duty 250 is running good yet so we may just run her into the ground.

Dan.

I don't know what style spark plugs the 97-03 vehicles used. But the problem they had was that there was not enough threads in the cylinder head to hold the spark plug, and they could blow out. The 04+ problem is that carbon build up on the plug can cause the plug to break while trying to remove it. So, yes they fixed one problem, and made another.

If you’re careful and follow the plug removal TSB 06-5-9, it’s a piece of cake changing um out
