I am about to need new tires for my truck and I want some fairly aggressive but street friendly 33's for my 18" Helo Black Maxx's. I currently have the stock tires (275/65 BFG Rugged Trails) on them b/c I didn't want to throw away perfectly good tires. However, with the stock tires, I had to trim about a 1/2 inch off of my Husky mudflaps. I want to keep the mudflaps but I want some bigger tires that won't rub. Any suggestions?

 

I'd suggest the 285/65-18 BFG AT KO. It will be about 1/2 inch taller and 1/2 inch wider than your OEM tires, so you will have to trim a little more or add a leveling kit.

 

I have the Daystar leveling kit with the BFG 285x65xr18's. They don't rub at all and I have molded mud flaps.

 

I have 18x9 aftermarket wheels so mine are wider.

 

In your gallery it says that you have a 2.5" autospring kit. And you are having problems with rubbing running the stock tires on 18X9's?? Something just isn't adding up, since I am running 325/60/18 (33X13) on 18X9 Helos and I don't have any rubbing at all.

And if you are rubbing with the stock tires, you are just going to rub even more with 33's no matter what brand, since you will be going up in height. So either lift your truck more to fit bigger tires, get bigger tires and start the trimming again, or get another set of stock tires. I hate to say it but those are about the only options that I can think of.

 

The only place I'm getting rubbing is on my mudflaps which hang a lot lower than the wheel wells. I have no rubbing anywhere else. That is the difference between your truck not rubbing and mine rubbing. How much dirt and rocks get thrown up on your truck with your set up? Just wondering if I were to take off the mudflaps how much paint damage I can expect.

 

My truck had mud flaps on it, but I didn't like how it looked once I had the rims and tires on so I took them off. Mine where the molded Ford flaps and I still didn't rub. So who knows...

I havn't noticed any rock chips or anything like that, and I am very picky when washing my vehicles and seem to notice every little thing. The truck does get get more stuff thrown up on the sides when driven in rain, but its not a whole lot more than with the stock wheels. But I do wash the truck 2-3 times a week so that helps alot also.

 

Awesome! Thanks! Did you have front and rear mudflaps? I may just go with a similar size and let the mudflaps go. Off of my topic, any noticeable loss in power or mpg with 325/60's?

 

Both, but they got thrown in the trash along time ago. I didn't really notice any differance in power, but I did see a 1.5-2 mpg drop with the 325's, I was getting high 15's-16 mpg on average, now I am seeing high 13's to mid 14's, on a longer trip I did get over 17. But they way I look at it, its a truck, its not supposed to get good mileage . For the way that I drive, I just love to hear my exhaust , I think it does pretty good.

 

I know some tires are lighter than others. Are there any 325/60's that are lighter than others?

 

Does $250/tire mounted and balanced sound right for the BFG 285's and the Nitto TG 325's?

 

For the BFG's thats about right, as for the Nittos I couldn't tell you. Since I bought mine off E-bay for $620 shipped, I got very lucky on that one!!
