Bogging At High Rpm's
Bogging At High Rpm's
I got a 2005 f-150 lariat S/C w/5.4. I added a K&N 77 series intake and a bassani SIDO side exit. It really woke the thing up but on occassion, like 100F and 100% humidity it seems to bog hard at around 3500+ rpm's. I just orded an EDGE EVO hoping to remedy this problem. It doesn't always do it but when it does it gives me the red @$$. Anybody heard of this and should the program help?

See your mass air flow sensor is right behind that K&N you just put on, and that sensor has to heat up... really hot to do its job. So when the oil off of that filter hits the hot mass air flow sensor, bad things happen. I have read article after article about people saying that their K&N filter, has fouled out the mass air flow sensor.
I recommend that you remove that K&N filter, ASAP. I would go with an oil less filter, like the AEM Brute Force.

Thanks for all the info, but it has had the air filter on since the spring and I never had this problem until the summer and extreme humidity. Just as an "in case" should I get some sensor spray cleaner and try that? Will that spray cleaner damage the MAF?
My 06 has a dead spot from 2500-3500 RPM, and it is not any better with the Edge. I hope stuck injectors are not the issue kind of scary if that is the problem.
I guess I will take it to the dealer if this has been a known problem on the previous year.

Never had a problem with a K&N 'spraying' oil either. Just heard a lot of people tell of other people having that happen. Dunno, never needed to re-oil one.
Normally cutting out at high RPM is a fuel problem. Plug/ignition problems hit under acceleration when the plugs are being used the hardest. Cutting out at RPM's often means lack of fuel. Fuel filter, crud in tank, gas cap off, fuel pump, fuel injectors are the usual suspects, especially if you are not throwing codes.
If it's still under warranty, swap the other air filter back in (to keep a poor technician from using the K&N as an excuse) and take it in.

mine idles alot ,so after 5-10 mins of idleing it has no punch power till I get about 2 miles down the road then its fine....my guess is the engine gets hot and computer detunes to keep from pinging
