Halogen and HID

So i want to get an HID Kit for the fog lights in my '05. I know that Matt 05'FX4 has an HID kit in his fogs only, but as I was reading through the threads, I notice how you guys keep saying standard halogen 9005 bulbs are brighter than 9145 bulbs. You think it is the same in a HID Kit, where a 9005 bulb would be brighter or have a better output than a 9145 bulb? Any ideas??

I can answer this I think........NOTHING compares to HID.....With that said, the 9005 silver stars in the fogs are a very good upgrade over stock. They are brighter and whiter, but don't last very long due to their short lifespan (they are meant as high beam bulbs) The kit I ordered for the HID conversion IS a 9005 kit because nobody makes a 9145 kit. The bulb still fits right in there with no problem though, just a little sideways coaxing when you screw it in and it pops right in. I ordered my SS H13's from advance auto today and I'll be putting those in the headlights tommorow. But the difference between any halogen bulb and the HID setup is unreal, the proper color temp (5000K) looks like daytime on the road.

Which kit in your fogs do you have?

I was going for a 8000K look for my fogs, I like the bluish light that emits from the bulbs. What kind of a color output does your kit have, I would assume a bright white right?

I would not get 8000K, those are WAYYY too blue. 6000K would be the highest I would go. The 5000K I have are very blue when you first fire them up and pure white when heated up. They are much whiter/bluer than any other car on the road. The kit is like the one listed here.......

I also have a 9005 HID Kit (5000K) in my fogs and love it - nothing compares. You can pretty much drive around at night with just your fogs. Plus the way our foglights are built they have a good cutoff so you arent blinding other drivers. I had my girlfriend drive in front of me one night in her corolla and she said the fogs weren't blinding her and they actually looked really cool.

One thing to look out for since you are doing a 9145 in a 9005 opening, like Matt said, you need to tilt it a bit to get it to go in. I actually had some issues with condensation in my fogs. So I dried them out this weekend and reinstalled them with this special black stuff (like that sticky stuff you use to put posters on the wall) and no more condensation.

Do HIDs in the fogs, not in the headlight - HIDs in the headlights will blind everyone and their dog. The fogs are your safest bet.

Did you mean doing a 9005 in a 9145 opening? Hmmm run HID fogs and normal headlights eh? I may have to look into this.....

I notice that that particular ebay auction shows that he has kits for H13 as well... I guess you loose high beams with that though correct?

Correct. If I were you I'd just wait for Saleen to start selling the F150 HID headlights as parts on their website.

But... I have NO patience! LOL!

I do think I'm going to look in to the same fog set that Matt has though... looks simplistic to install and yields a BUNCH of light.

Still no melting issues Matt? No leaks?

Thanks Matt.

The wife is out shopping today... I better wait and see what kind of damage she does there before I commit to the purchase. LOL!
