Flowmaster or Magnaflow for a 5.4 2004 FX4
Flowmaster or Magnaflow for a 5.4 2004 FX4
The last few days I have been reading all the old posts about exhausts and I am really torn between which exhaust to go with. I want to either get the flowmaster 40 si/do or the magnaflow si/do. I am looking for an exhaust thats going to be loud and at the same time one thats not going to rust out in a yr. Please give me some suggestions. Also, does adding a 4in tip instead of a 3 make a big difference in the sound. Thanks.
Quality wise, Magnaflow's are great. Been on my truck for almost a year and thru a midwest winter with no problem. As far as sound, if you are looking for loud, then go with something else: The Mangaflows are quiet at idle and highway speeds, but make some noise upon acceleration->exactly what I wanted.

my roush pipes sounded good, but weren't all that loud. so I had my cats cut off. that made it alot louder, but still not as loud as I am looking for.
Thanks
Sorry about the multiposting I am fairly new to the site and was not aware. So for sound I am going to want to go with the flowmaster. Is there a big difference in the flowmaster sound and just re-doing the whole exhaust with straight pipes.

I've had both on my truck (although the FM was a Super40) and the Flowmaster was definitely louder. Another option is the IMCO extreme. I've heard a couple trucks with those and they put the Flows to shame for pure volume. I would imagine that comes from the fact that the muffler case is only about 9" inches long.
One thing to keep in mind when asking this kind of question on a public forum such as this: Everyone's opinion of loud and their opinion of the right sound is very subjective. One person (i.e. me) didn't like the sound of the Flows and changes it out for a Magnaflow. Another will think the Flows are weak and go with straight pipe, etc...

I have heard great things about the Rousch off-road exhaust. That's what I'm going with and you can get it for about $425 through Woodhouse automotive. It is made my Borla exhaust and is very good quality from what I've heard.
there is only one option for a muffler if you want it loud but even this isnt THAT loud........NO MUFFLER, dont believe me? take off the stock muffler and just leave it like that no pipes out the side or back, and drive around a bit, it will sound much better and actually a little quieter if you run the pipes out from under the truck, so if you like it have some pipes bent up and put them on, if you dont like it (dont know why anyone asking for a loud exhaust wouldnt) put a muffler on
Good choice - I am sure you will really like the sound.
I had the Delta Flow 50 SI/DO installed on my 05 Screw about 2 weeks ago. I love the low rumble.
Best of luck with the install

Magnaflow is generally accepted around these parts but I heard BrewDude's Flowmaster and I was throughly impressed. It sounded absolutely amazing.
I was very very impressed with it.
On a side note: dtd509 what is up with that huge sig man...it looks weird.

You can hear the sound of the magnaflow here.
I could not find any other sites with sounds on them. Well, Borla's site had some sounds, but I don't know what vehicle was making the sounds, lol. Anyways, I still don't have my catback, so I cant speak from experience, but my friends seem to think that Flowmaster is your better choice. I personally have heard a set of Magnaflow's on a friends 05 F-150 and it sounded great.
Good luck with this!
