I think you'll be fine. The first model year always has its issues but with 30-40K miles all of the quirks should be worked out.

its the first production year of the new model line- if you're looking at used ones, the previous owner 'hopefully' dealt with any issues that the truck might have had-[some had problems, many/most have had no major problems at all] i would suggest looking into the maintenance records of the trucks you are interested in to do a little background research into what they may have had done... your biggest things were vibrations, throttle lag (taken care of by reprogramming the PCM or buying a tuner) butyl pad on the interior bed-side there are a TON of threads on the 04-present issues...just search for a topic, and put your reading glasses on.

No problems with mine....keep in mind most of the vocal people are the ones with problems.

Not many people post...."Hey my tranny is doing great".

Good luck with your purchase.

That's why I said "think" and "should".
Tical is not responsible for any issues with a MY2004 and claims no responsibility.
Wait, how do I make that last sentence really tiny so no one can read it?

Well I currently own a 06 Nissan titan which I like except all the rattles and so forth. I am hoping that I can trade it in on a 04 F-150 with 30=40k miles. Ive always liked the 04 and up f150's but they never had any deals. But I want a used one anyways to try to lower my monthly note. Im looking at white or grey supercrew 4x4 with he 5.4.

I have a '04, F-150, 5.4, RCab; purchased 6/04. I enjoy my rig. Rides smoothly like a luxury auto. I have had NO problems except for a glitch with the rear fender butyl pads. The Service Mgr lied to me which caused me to bring my rig home and take the pads off and repaint. Total man hours, 1½.

Mine is Oxford White and glistens like sitting on a show room. I use Mother's paste, and wash with no soap to retain the wax. When I order OEM upgrades I am always asked if I have the new model. I have yet to understand this phrase. The OEM order clerk will ask if I have a round front end. One asked where my metal logo is located on the tailgate. No matter, my rig rides like a expensive car, has power to work any kind of traffic, and pleases the owner.

I think the '04s are overall more troublefree than the '05-'06 models, mostly 'cause the '04 5.4 3V injectors are from a different supplier than the newer ones and don't go through that sticking-wide-open-and-hydrolocking-the-engine business. That alone is probably the biggest problem with the '05-'06 models. Of course, if you're buying a truck with a 4.6 liter, disregard all I just said.

Some '04s had vibration problems, so do test drive extensively at highway speeds before buying. Good luck in any case; I've got 42K miles on my '04 Supercab with no major problems thus far.
