If you've got a budget that big than I'd look into getting your truck straight axled. The only problem I can foresee is that whoever is going to do it might not be competent in doing the job so you might look into just doing the 12" Rize since it will clear 40s and some gears.

Torture,

AHH, straight axle.

Don't listen to the haters here. I for one applaud you.

If I could afford it I would have had a straight axle in my 150 along time ago.

I personally wouldn't lift my truck as high as your considering but in no way am I bashing what you wanna do.

Go ahead call me crazy, but I think every truck on the road today should be straight axled. But then again, I'm a straight axle kinda guy.

although my dream is to take the PowerStroke/Frame and suspension of an F-350 and put an F-150 super crew with an 8' F-150 bed on top of it

bullydog and banks out that powerstroke and u'd have the ultimate F-150

and no i wouldnt swap out badges.

Cheers!

LOL...thats one way to make a Ford run, put a Chevy engine in it!

Instead of talking about it...do it. Of course it sounds like you really have no idea what your getting into. Ever think about the front wheels...do you plan to have the same 6 lug pattern you have now? That will mean custom axels since no donar truck will have that pattern. What about steering...I doubt your R&P will work on that set up...more full custom work. And custom work is not cheap!

it would be a complete waste of money to try to mod an F150 to get it to the point you are looking to take it

After reading that my opinion was shared. Also that Chevy looks freaking stupid.

My friends F-350 SCrew is sitting on 52's (I'm NOT joking).... is that tall enough for you???

The entire front & rear suspension was ripped completely out. It was then fitted on a set of 2.5 ton axles, and everything custom from there. I don't have any pictures of it, but Thumper has seen it. He takes the truck out nearly every weekend... and does go everywhere in it

Problems he has ran into: parking garages are a thing of the past, and don't plan on going thru any drive thru's! Turning radius does suck, but it always did on his F-350 SCrew long bed. Turning in general will wear you out, and eats stock power steering pumps; he's having it converted to hydraulic steering next weekend. Getting into the truck is a royal PITA. At a red light you cannot see two cars in front of you unless you stay back ~10 yards! Even with a PowerStroke & nearly 6.00 gearing, fuel economy is nonexistant. And I know I'm leaving some out.

Advantages: everyone looks at his truck, ALL the time! The chicks DO dig it. He goes places in the woods that you swear anything not on tracks will get stuck.

He won't admit it, but I know he regrets doing this to his truck to some degree. For daily commuting he had to buy an S-10 -- it's funny watching him get out of something with 28" tires to something with 52"! As far as pricing it wasn't that bad. If I remember right he's under $5k.

However, Im really with RamSS/T on this. It sounds like a great idea and all but I don't think you have any idea on how much this is going to cost. I mean we're talking new axles front and rear, new driveshafts, new steering, new brakes, coilovers; which is going to scare you when you see the price, wheels, tires and plus all of the other custom work and parts needed. Not to mention if you find someone who isn't up to par on their custom work, now you've just worried your $25,000+ truck. I hate to say it, but I'd probally be all over it if I lived in California but eh not so much over here. Every time I see a converted straight axle done, it always looks like crap and always has problems down the line.

weaseled

Did he end up doing the work himself? . . or who did it?

All Out Offroad here in Houston does them and I've seen the work. Looks good but I just hate the freaking plain rims that people have to use. Or the fact that the axles and stuff under there is all rustic and not repainted. I'd rather a Rize 8 inch kit with a 3 inch body lift installed on top of it.

He had it done by a guy who used to have a shop off Park Ave. in Edgewater. Since then he's moved off Old Mission Road here in NSB; Old Mission runs between the Walgreens & K-Mart plaza off of SR-44.

It's basically just one guy who does good work. So far I think he's done between 15 - 20 trucks like that. Since Jon's (the red one) they've just gotten bigger and bigger

He's done several 1500's and one or two F150's -- none of the new body style tho. On Jon's truck the stock power brake stuff worked fine with the 2.5 ton calipers. On the 1500's & F150's he has to upgrade everything... to include a driveline brake too.

Before that mega lift he was running around on 37" Swampers. After the big lift he found out the truck he used to use for everything now has two roles only: playing in deep deep mud and a conversation piece everywhere he goes!

I have seen a ton of misinformation here. You're asking in the wrong forum, everyone likes to preach about things they have no idea about. Take a look @ Pirate4x4. Coilovers in the rear, lol. To just drive around and occasionaly put it into 4x4 to get through a little snow, you can reuse some of your running gear. The axle end issues you'll run into as RamSST mentioned can be worked out but if you're pushing the tires you speak of you should swap that 9.75 out as well, and go with a much more universal lug pattern and better brake system. As for the front, you always want your front tires touching surface so you are able to steer better over obstacles.

I hope you do choose to do this but you should speak to another crowd before doing so, this forum is not entirely unknowledgeable but the people who know are probably @ pirate4x4 as well.

I like DJ's dodge far more than that. The truck is used like it should.

agreed
that chevy looks horrible....i like chevys (not the new ones though) and that is horrible. the tires are to small for it anyway.

and the rear axle of our trucks couldnt handle 40+ tires and off roading. unless you wanted to swap that out also.

....can you say....superduty??
