Isn't there more drive train loss in 4WD vehicles vs. 2WD?

Yeah because of the transfer case used in 4wd. You may not be moving the front wheels in 2wd but the transfer case is always spinning because it is connected to the back of the tranny. More parasitic power loss from having to turn the t-case at all times.
