I have issues........

I have developed some strange things with the 05.

First, my damn leaf springs are squeaking and it's driving me nucking futz! I have tried endlessly to lubricate where the squeak is coming from, but it's all a futile effort. Have any of you guys had the squeaky leaf springs and what is the right fix?

Also, I was under it oiling the springs today and noticed the center part of the rear axle where the tube meets the housing is stained like there's a leak, and I looked at the end by the brakes and saw residue there as well. What's the fix for this?

I suppose the dealership is going to get a visit from me pretty soon. I am going to demand a loaner this time though, they gave me a "free rental" which wasn't free last time, I had to pay for daily taxes which adds up after a while.

Thanks guys!

I thought Ford has a TSB on the squeaky leaf springs, or that may just apply to the 04's I think? I think what they do is apply rubber of some sort between the leaf springs.

I don't know much about the other problem you have on the truck though.

It could be a LOT worse.
  1. Are you sure the squeak isn't coming from the tailgate? If not, they'll take them apart and clean them or you'll get new leafs.
  2. I had the same problem and they replaced my rear end seal.

I hope this helps!

The squeak is definately coming from the leafs, I was bench pressing it and making it squeak a couple of hours ago.

Thanks Thump!

I have the same problem but since I have a flip kit the dealer refuses to fix it.

They blame it on my flip kit of course... even though I see stock trucks of all makes and models with this issue all the time.

I dunno what kinda grease you're using, but I've always used wheel bearing grease in between the leafs to quiet them down. Use compressed air to try to blow as much dirt and grime out from between the leafs, then use a wooden wedge to drive the individual leafs apart. Slather some wheel bearing grease on 'em and it should be good to go.

Some residue where the axle housing tubes are pressed/welded onto the center section is normal. Fluid on the backing plate ain't though, sounds like you've got a leaking axle seal.

Yeah, the inner leak is soaking the dust and dirt far from the center, like 10 inches or so from where it's inserted into the center. The squeak is coming from the riveted in leaf retainer thingy at the front of the pack. Wierd.

If you had lowered it and painted the spokes black, never would have happened.

Yeah, I keep hearing that over and over, like a broken record.

My springs make noise too. My noise is not a squeak, its a clunk. The dealer called yesterday to tell me a new set of springs came in. I had them replaced at 20,000 miles and the noise went away, and now I have 45,000 and they are replacing them again. The grease has not helped to quiet mine down.

So the springs are noise free for about 20,000 miles or so huh. My truck is at 23,000, well within the squeak range. I guess I'll have to be gerring them changed out for a while since I plan on keeping the truck forever.

I had a bad squeak in my rear leaves a long time ago. The dealer tried to fix it with the rubber pads and grease between each leaf.. only worked for a while, then it wore off. They eventually replaced them and Im squeak free now in the leafs.... but since I lowered it, there is some other noise coming from the rear suspension now.

I also have a leaking pinion seal on my truck.. COuld be from the two times the dealer had my rear diff apart or from when I had new ring and pinion installed... I dunno.

It has been like clock work on my truck, 20,000 mile intervals.
