Damn Little Wrench!
Damn Little Wrench!
Aside from my shock problem, I have had an ongoing problem with the Limp home wrench light coming on during long trips. Lately, it really hasnt been doing it except for yesterday, drove about 300 miles and it came on. I turned the truck off, then on and it was gone.
Before then, the wrench would come on, along with the engine and ABS light and would go out after I turned the truck off, but come back on after a short drive. I tried taking it to AutoZone but they said there was something wrong with my plug and they couldnt read the computer. If I took it to Ford, scince the light wouldnt come on right away Im not sure if theyd been able to read the comp anyway. My temporary solution was to unplug the batt. and reset the computer which would work until the next long haul. I only have about 1500 miles left before I hit 72K and my ext. warranty is done.
Any input would be great, thanks,
RV

Sounds like the same problem that I just had with my truck. In fact it is at the dealer today getting fixed. Mine is an 05 with 26,000 on it. Just remember that if the wrench light gets thrown, even if you shut the truck off to reset it, that trouble code is still retained in the computer, unless you unplug the battery. Unplugging the battery resets all of the DTC's, so as long as you have had this problem at least once since unplugging the battery, the Ford garage should be able to read the trouble code.
Btw, according to my Edge Evolution, my wrench light was coming on due to bad voltage correlation between the throttle position sensor and the throttle body. This should be fixed by replacing the throttle position sensor, but I'll have to see what the dealer does about it.

In either 03 (some models only) or 04 (can't remember which), Ford switched to a new OBDII communications protocol ISO 15765 (CAN) which is not compatible with older OBDII scan tools and code readers. This protocol will be mandatory in all US-market vehicles by 2008
You can buy a low-end CAN-capable code reader for as little as $65 from WalMart.
Go back to the AZ store and see if they have the CAN-capable scan tool available for use. If they don't, it might be a good idea to educate them....
