Homelink

Everyone,

Just wanted to let you know incase you want the factory homelink...Its a little pricey but pretty cool in my opinion. Part of the deal I made with the dealership when I bought my truck was that they give me an OEM visor with homelink for free for my truck, and one at dealer cost for my dad's 2005. There is only 2 screws, and it is completely plug and play. I think you HAVE to have lighted vanity mirrors for this to work though.

FYI:

Retail is $387!
Dealer cost is $240...I know still high for a garage door opener, but thought it would be a cool b-day gift for my dad who has 2 garage doors at the house and a shop.

I don't have a garage so my buttons have never been used.

But you can go to their website and find add-ons. You can turn lights on and off, your home alarm system, etc. A little pricey but you don't have to go into a dark house if you don't want to.

It's more than just a garage door opener.

Cool mod! Another way to get the homelink is to search ebay.....we have bought two of them and added them to my old 97 f150 and my son's 05 XLT (in the over head console). Each bid came in around 25 bucks!

I bought one ebay and added it to the factory location. I pryed the visor apart, cut the fabric and plastic out, everything else was pretty easy. Just glued it back together with some weight on it for several hours and it looks like it came from the factory that way. I have the lariat though so I already had power there.

This for tan and this for grey should work. After you open up the visor, there is a plastic piece you will have to cut out (about the same size as the black box on the transmitter). I will see if I have some pictures of inside my visor so you can see what it looks like. I used superglue to hold the visor back together. I was actually surprised it held, but it has held well even in 100+ degree weather. I will see how well it holds up in the below freezing temps this winter.

I love these things. I live in a condo with a security gate as does my gf. Beats the heck out of having those damn remotes clipped on the sun visor. And I never need to buy a $5 9V battery again!

Just run 12 volts to the visor. The door pillar comes off, run a wire up.
I put mine in the dashtray, I have a power gate and garage door, don't want to be messing with remotes.
Usually cost about 25 bucks for the unit on Ebay.
I've bought several, all of them work the same way.

Chris

x2 on the center rail install! Very easy. Remember - any homelink controller can be put in any vehicle - they are not manufacturer specific. The only thing to keep in mind is "traditional" or "rolling code". Ebay is a great source for Homelink.

Very simple to install - just wire it up to 12v (I suggest switched so someone can't just pop the window & open your garage!) and off you go!
