Ford and BP?

I have a friend who just bought a NEW 2006 F-150 4x4 a few weeks ago. He opened his gas door and the gas cap had the BP green logo all over it.

Does Ford and BP have some kind of agreement going?

Just wondering.

Mine is a 06 and its not all over it. It does how ever state 'ford recomends BP' So i guess either some sort of deal is going on between them or BP is just better gas, wich IMO it is better gas but i go to chevron

Yep I'm sure its some deal that BP pays Ford for that type of brand placement.

I used them when they were Amoco but has since switched to Sunoco or Shell.

The first time I saw those BP gas caps was last year on some new '06 Fords at a dealership in Gulfport, MS -- oddly enough a few days before Katrina rolled in and rocked their world! (I'll bet none of the cars I looked at that day, including some really nice Mustangs, lived a very long life.)

My guess is that BP is essentially "buying" the gas caps for Ford. On millions vehicles per year, that's a nice little chunk of change being saved at FoMoCo...

Its not a BP gas cap, its just a sticker on the inside of the fuel door that says Ford recommends BP and has BP's little green and yellow symbol. I have a '05 and its not on it, but my wifes new '06 has it.

Weird, I just posted a question about that in another gas thread. My owners manual and gas cap have the logo and recommendation to use BP.

Isn't it true though that there are only two suppliers in the whole country, BP and someone else? Basically every other company buys it from them, adds their own mix and resells it?

That's different from the ones I saw last year then -- the ones I saw had the BP logo and some text saying "Ford recommends BP Gasoline" ink-printed right on the surface of the plastic gas cap....
