Power Folding Mirrors Installed - work like OEM

I finally got some spare time so I pulled out the mirrors, module and pigtail kit that have been in my basement for nine months. I was a little concerned after reading that others on the Forum had problems with this mod. But I installed all the parts and wired it up exactly like the Ford wiring diagram shows and it works just as it should with the stock power mirror switch that came in my truck. I already had the deluxe mirror package so the only new additions over what I had are the power fold and the puddle lamps. I’d like to thank "bsm2001" for the great instructions and list of parts needed. Luckily I didn’t need to wire up any extra relays or switch. Below is a list of the parts I used:

(1) 5L3Z-17683-AAA Drivers Side Mirror-------------------------$191.20
(1) 5L3Z-17682-AAA Passenger Side Mirror----------------------$155.20
(1) 5L3Z-17L684-AA Power Fold Mirror Module--------------------$19.64
(1) 3U2Z-14S411-AJA Pigtail Kit----------------------------------$25.36
(1) Standard 5-wire automotive relay socket-----------------------$4.00
(1) 10 amp inline mini fuse kit--------------------------------------$4.00
18ga. or 20ga. Wire (get 6 different colors)

The OEM prices listed are the current ones on FordParts.com. Back when I got mine I know the prices were much less.

One strange thing is that the Power Fold Mirror Module has a different number molded onto it than listed above (the forth digit is a “T”), but I ordered the number above and that’s what was on the box that it came in (see my gallery). I'm just glad that it works - Pull the Power mirror switch back once and they fold in pull the switch back again and they fold out.

That's an awsome mod and probably one I'll try and tackle as I have the deluxe mirrors w/o the power fold. I'll go and search for this mod, but I assume you have to take off the inside door panels. Not too scary I hope? About how long did this take you from start to finish?

Door panel removal? Not a problem, you can have them off in 5 to 10 minutes each. Do a search on the forum for some good instructions. As far as time, I"m notoriously slow at this type of thing so I did the entire job in about 6 hours total. I soldered all the connections and neatly dressed all the wiring for that OEM look. You need some upfront planing on stuff like where to get power, where to attach the ground leads, where to tap that interior light circuit and where to mount the Module, you get the idea. Some of the guys out there I'm sure could do this job in half that time or less.

Reading the post carefully, it operates via the stock power mirror adjustment switch.

Push it forward and backwards...

Actually, it's a pull backwards on the switch to extend or retract them.

Do you need to buy the mirrors all over again if you have the heated/powerd mirrors? Or can you just buy whats below and install?

(1) 5L3Z-17L684-AA Power Fold Mirror Module--------------------$19.64
(1) 3U2Z-14S411-AJA Pigtail Kit----------------------------------$25.36

teknics is close and RockPick is right-on. I used the stock power mirror switch and you do just pull it back to both fold and open the mirrors.

Unfortunately you'll need to buy the mirrors. The deluxe mirrors don't have the power fold motors in them (at least I don't think they do). After shelling out the money for the new mirrors my old ones better not have the motors in there.

I was hoping that the motors would be in there.

Got them on eBay - cost $12.00 including shipping. You may be able to find them at a hardware or home center, they are just plastic plugs, but searching around for the right size and making them fit (the square one's are trimmed on the back), I think it's worth the 12 bucks.

I guess you could wire up everything and see if it works. If not, then get the new mirrors.
