Ford really dropped the ball

After every mod I could have sworn I'd win but damn if I didn't. This was with my engine mods and without my lift. These engines don't respond too well to mods, I lost many runs, one was to another 05-06 chevy crewcab with exhaust only. Chevy either made a replacement for displacement or Ford lost the race in this dept. I'm not slow, but I'm not quick. If you threw the mods I have now on any other truck I'd be so much quicker, when I tell others about my 0-60 (even a high 6 when stock) they'd laugh, namely hemi owners. It's hard to admit when your investment isn't all it's cracked up to be, but everyone has heard it time and time again. Since when have they referred to the hemi, endurance or vortec as a slow engine. I do win (especially to those old 5.7's you speak of). I smoked one with exhaust and small tires (taller eff. gear ratio) just two weeks ago, that's with 37's. Like I said I'm no longer a slug, but when I'm in my buddies 05 chevy you can hear my head cave. We weigh a ton and the numbers the triton has been putting down are far from impressive. Look at my dyno numbers, I've seen titan's hit these numbers almost stock (want proof?).

I know that there are others on this forum that are disappointed as well, I've read it for a year now. My traded '97 had more pep with lower output?

A) Check about a PCM reflash on the throttle by wire/throttle delay, could be part of your problem.
B) By the weigh you said AZMidgets truck weighed way less than yours it sounds like you have a supercrew, was your old '97 a supercrew, no.
C) In your initial rant you complained about people wanting more seets and creature comforts and you wanting power and how this truck weighs too much. Why then did you buy a supercrew?
D) If it is so bad why is it still the best selling vehicle. Peoples tastes are fickle, especially on larger dollar amount items. If something sucks soooooo bad, theey won't be buying it and it probably wouldn't have won over converts yet alone the industry awards.
E) You just can't please everyone. So as a company when you have to make a product that has the broadest sales market you make what will sell. Not everyone likes firm shifts, having to be super cautious on the gas pedal (especially in thee rain or turning), etc. So yes, this truck is more car like. This is my third F150, and seventh personal truck and my favorite by far.

When it is all said and done, the F150 COULD use a larger engine. Ok, we got that point. I think MOST of us agree on that.
But wait, are you saying that is basically the only major issue with the new F150s? Sure, *some* have experienced problems with nibbles or brakes, and a little thing here and there, but, if overall a somewhat doggish engine (that at least has some of the best MPG in the class) is the only real complaint than I would say Ford didn't drop the ball, in fact I would say they did damn good.
There isn't a vehicle on the planet that you wouldn't be able to find a single flaw in...and most have MANY. I could go on forever with the lists of dislikes for other trucks, but if an anemic engine that still gets the job done is the basis for you thinking Ford completely dropped the ball, I think you need to step back down into reality and realize one problem (that is really personal taste) isn't too bad.
I think we would all love a bigger engine, and maybe someday when Ford isn't in SERIOUS financial serious trouble they will be able to create the "Perfect" truck... but until then, I will still take my F150 over ANY other truck in the market, thank you very much.

I agree w/ Lumadar. These are very well rounded trucks. I would guess Ford found that being the fastest pickup dosen't make it the best selling vehicle in America.
You also have to keep in mind when you race your co-workers truck that his does not meet today's emission/fuel economy /safety standards and our F-150's are much more solid (accounts for all that weight)than old.
Also, I had a reg cab '90 F150 w/ the 5.0 and can say my '04 FX4 Screw is faster and MUCH better built.
I'm not saying that I wouldn't like a little extra power, but I am happy with my truck and wouldn't trade it for another for more power. Hell, I had an '00 S-10 w/ a 4.3 that was very quick. The rest of the truck was falling apart w/ only 40,000mi, but it was quick.
The tuner does make a nice differnce especially w/ throttle lag. Wish I didn't have to buy it but,... oh well.

the powertrain is not that good on these trucks. i agree. when my truck was stock even off the line it was a dog. i drove a coworkers stock avalanch with the 5.3 and it was way faster thn my truck. the f150 tranny shifts like its a cadilac not a truck to slushy for me. hopefully it will be better when i regear and get an edge.
Here is my 2 cents, I think Ford was trying to follow the super dutys when they designed the new F-150. What I mean by that is that they were focusing more on a "family/work" type truck. They wanted to give a family the comfort of a car and also the pulling capacity of a truck, for campers, boats, etc. and also the safety. Ford basically built the truck that the mojority of the people wanted. You can still buy mods to help things out a bit.
If I were to get a truck for racing or mudding or whatever it would be an old truck or bronco with a 460. New regulations on emissions, and what not has also been a factor to our dilemma, thanks to tree huggers.
Everyone has made focuses on to one thing or another and the way this thread is going is that everyone else went for quickness and Ford didn't, but you have to look at Ford's towing capacity compared to everyone elses and you can see where Ford was going with. Just my 2 cents.

Keep in mind that despite the fact that while many of us here have installed tuners CAI'S and the like the vast, VAST majority of these trucks will be driven bone stock from cradle to grave. Ford sells a huge number of these trucks to average people and what you see on this site is a vocal minority and is really not representative of most F150 owners.

the 2004 forum is becoming such a joke. I can't believe the head-in-the-sand mentality around here. Heaven forbid you critisize the F150.
But yet all of the threads are about problems with the truck. Either fixing things or making it faster so it can keep up with the competition.
Ford could sell dog crap and some of you guys would buy it and claim its the best thing in the world because it has a Blue Oval.
And yet, not all of you have Ford cars. Many have Hondas and Toyotas in the driveway beside the F150.

I said the same in a thread last week.
The response? Sell it and buy a GM.
Man, you guys will be crying in your beer when Ford loses their #1 spot because of people buying competitive product.
US automakers
I for one am one of those. Dad has an F-150 but he drives an import, so does mom.
I have a nissan sedan and in short, this is why US automakers will go bankrupt like Delphi/Dana/etc and all other US auto suppliers.
They are years behind quality controls/technology/etc.
Dont get me wrong, I work for a big US auto supplier, but being in the industry I can tell you, this is in the near-future...
