Emergency Edge Help

This morning my truck is running PERFECTLY. I actually thought it had been running better then before. Then all of a sudden this afternoon i turn the truck on and the display freaks out, no problem disconnect the edge and turn truck back on. Then later I turn the truck on and all the gauges light up and it says check gauges. Edge display weird again. Try again disconnect edge and turn truck on and it is okay. Now I get ready to leave and the truck is acting and the wrench and the engine light come on and the truck starts dragging. I call edge tech and the unhelpful rep said to return it to stock. I do so and it still has the same problem. Now when I am going like 20 mph it shows like 60. That wasn't how it was stock what should I do. I guess I am gonna have to take it to the dealer right?

Contact Edge again an ask for Nate Halliday, He will walk you through everything. Your going to need your computer. Good luck.

Wow I just ordered my edge, and this was the last thing I wanted to see. I've seen some people having problems with the edge but also other have not ever had a problem. I wonder what could be causing it? I think when I get mine I'm not going to update it. It seems like to me that after you update it is when you have problems. So I will well enough alone. Are there any other guys out there that have the edge and never updated it?

Always update it before you install it! I did. I only had one problem when in level 2. I was accelerating really hard onto the freeway and my engine went into "limp home mode" or whatever its called. To fix it I pulled over to the side of the freeway read the DTC code and erased it. I then put it back into level 2 and I have had no problems since then. ::Knock on wood::

I didn't update before I got it because mine was straight from the edge and it was suppose to have the latest update...mistake?

thanks! nate did the trick. apparently there was some sort of miscommunication between the truck and programmer.

I hate to say it but this is why I sold my Edge on Ebay. I was on vacation for a week and when I got home the battery was dead so I jumped it off and the Edge screen was all f*ed up. So I tried to return it to stock and it got about half way through and failed. I tried to reload the performance tune and it failed. The truck wouldnt crank or anything. I was highly pissed. I emailed Edge customer service (this was on Sunday) and Bill from Edge called me early Monday morning and walked me through the fix (which involved a couple downloads from my computer to the programer) very easily, but it left a VERY bitter taste in my mouth and frankly scared the crap out of me. Had I not had access to my computer I would have been screwed. With that said Bill at Edge was on it and fixed things right away and I can't give him enough credit for helping out, BUT IMO it was a problem that shouldnt have happened in the first place and it won't happen again (because I am only running the stock tune from now on...I will sacrifice the extra power for the peace of mind).

Ram -- remember, you have other options. The Edge seems to be solid but, there are several little qwerks that keep popping up on a frequent basis... qwerks are associated with all electronics but, we see a biased number here because of the number of units in use I guess...

i love my truck and like my edge. i will give them another chance, chit happens. if someone dropped me everytime i screwed up well who knows where i'd be. at this point i am just glad it got fixed without me having to take it to the dealer, be without the car, and having to put up with the dealer. especially after several reps would not help. i am going to send an e-mail to edge customer service about nate.

I know. And it seems almost all the problems with the Edge unit come about in the process of loading a new tune or putting it back to stock. It would probably be fine if it loaded the tune and never messed with it, but it just wasnt worth it to me. I travel out of town a lot for work and I have to be able to depend on the truck 100% and since its slow anyway a little slower doesnt really matter to me. Other tuners are certainly an option, but I am not sure they are worth it to me at this point since I am sure I wont have the truck this time next year anyway.

New battery for '05 and Edge information

I am now the proud owner of a new battery for my 2005 XLT. I have had issues similar to others on this site. After leaving the truck sit for over 1 week the battery went dead 3 times in the last 3 months. This morning my battery was only producing about 11.8 volts, it should be closer to 12.4 volts or more. I had also been having trouble with the Edge screen being blank and staying blank after startup. From this forum I learned of others having the same problem so I figured it was with the electronics draining the battery; but it hadn't happened for 2 years prior to this. I went to a local auto electric shop that has a great reputation. First he checked for amp draw from the truck to see what the parasitic draw of the system was. It is suppose to be </= 50 milliamps (mA). It takes some time for the computer to shut down so the amp draw can be measured. It took about 30 minutes for the computer to shut down. I also unplugged my Edge programmer just to eliminate all options. My truck was pulling 30 mA after the computer shut down; this is within Ford specs and should be handled by a good battery. Just for grins I plugged in the Edge. After the Edge screen shut off the truck was pulling 60 mA; borderline or just over what is recommended and may affect battery drain. I will unplug the battery negative post or at least the Edge when I leave the truck sit over a week from now on. I think the problem with the Edge has been low battery voltage. I have had no other issues with the Edge and it has performed very well for me. I hope this helps add to the knowledge base.

My batteries die everytime I leave my truck over a month without using it. I always make sure to drop my Tune down to Stock before I park it. Hopefully mine doesn't have this problem someday, I'll be ripping edge a new a$$ hole if it happens to me.
