My experience with this, I've had an 04, 05 and 06, all with 5.4 and 3.73 ls. I didn't realize how pathetic the stock pcm tune is until I actually got a tuner. Yea, the 06 feels a bit stronger off the line but still has no midrange pull. The throttle response with a recent Troyer custom tune/AF1 intake combo is awesome. It's not the 'drive by wire' technology but more of lame pcm programming. My 05 had a bad case of throttle lag, way worse than my 04, but a dealer pcm reflash and me resetting the strategy and driving hard for a few drive cycles fixed it somewhat but it wasn't until the custom tune that totally got rid of it. No matter what the next truck purchase is, ( will probably keep the 06 for a while if there are no issues ), I will always be looking at the tuner/intake combo as the very first mod.

 

My 04 had terrible lag. I picked up an 06 and while it is better, it isn't as responsive as my 70 Chevy with a 20 year old Holley and 36 year old linkage.

 

Don't worry all. Ford is working on it. Trust me.

BTW the edge did help a little but the lag is still there.

 

Whats the scoop? You have some inside info on an updated factory tune or something?

 

the throttle response on my '06 supercrew 4X4 is excellent...much better than my '06 Avalanche and better than all 3 of the chevy crew cab z71s i drove
