Cracked Windshield
Cracked Windshield
Driving home yesterday I noticed a crack on the passenger side of the windshield. Pretty sure it happened Tuesday. I was behind a truck with rocks falling from underneath on a 2 lane road and took a while to get clear to get around him. Can't say I am too upset about it though. The windshield was distorted and was causing me problems when I drive. Working nights its annoying seeing three sets of headlights per vehicle.
Do all windshields have this distortion on these trucks? Its really annoying being right in my line of sight. Going to call Monday and get quotes to replace it. Have used Safelite 4 times on various vehicles in the past. Nobody could touch their prices. The guy that did the installing here did a great job.

I should have bet either you or Nick would say it. If you look at a light at night you can really see it. Any angle, doesn't matter. I noticed it when I drove up from San Diego during the day and was having a hard time reading signs. Thought I needed glasses and went ahead got my eyes checked (and BAC LOL) and I was fine. Drove my buddiees 01 Screw hand had no probs. He drove mine and noticed it right away.
Bought the truck used and a week later I was driving back to Lemoore. Thats when I noticed it. I read a few posts where a few people had the sme complaint but it wasn't many.
I usually try the one eye closed when trying to sleep after too many

My windshield suffered a huge crack right down the middle four days ago. I went offloading in my FX4 last Saturday, so I think that’s were the crack happened. It started off as a medium size crack and then it progressed to a huge crack within one day. So I called around for price quotes for my 2004 F-150 windshield. Safelite wanted to charge me over $320 plus tax to replace the windshield. I told them no and I went with another company that just charged me $200 total including installation (they also threw in a free set of wiper blades as part of the order) for the same Ford F150 windshield.

I got mine repaired about a week ago. You should call your insurance company. They should cover that but you still have to pay the initial fee. Mine was $250. You also should have gotten that trucks number. You could have had them pay for it.
hey keith, looking at your pics, i see your in the military, i say this because there are services on Army bases, that actually fix cracks on windshields for free, they had on in fort drum, ny, and where i am currently stationed now in fort hood, tx. i just got a 7 inch cracked fixed on my truck about 2 weeks ago, came out very good. just thought i run this by you
Just a thought... before the small hole becomes a big crack
you can use those DIY windshield repair kits, like the ones at Wally world that go for about $7-10. I used one on a hole and you'd never know it was there.
Plus, I've heard that if you fix the small chip or hole right away it makes it much less likely that you'll ever develop a bigger crack.

In my 2004, I had a rock hit where I couldnt see it. It was next to the bottom edge of the windshield where it has that black stuff. It spread the extremely fast. I bought a new truck and didnt have to worry about the windshield. Not too bad.

so instead of replacing the windshield you just bought a new truck instead?
nice
I took a rock in the lowest black portion of my windshield about a year ago. When I first saw it, the crack itself was about 2" or so. Two days later, it spread across the windshield. Cost me $347 for a Carlite replacement, installed.
