Yet another Tuner question.

I know many of you have differant tuners. Which one (or ones) give the most HP, TQ, and of course MPG for the dollar ? I don't want to spend to much or too little if I could have had a BETTER one for a little more $$$ or a little less $$$.
There are quite a few brands so I am just asking.

I have a (stock still) 2006 F-150 XLT 5.4 3v with limited slip and 3.55's and just over 2000 miles.

Thanks, Dan

I should also add that I plan on adding a cold air intake and cat back sometime in the future.

I believe it was mwheue who posted his results but I could be wrong. He had both the Troyer tuned XCal2 and the XCal2 out of the box outperformed the Edge. However someone else who tinkered with their Edge (like most) outperformed his XCal2 and ever since those posts I have been yearning to get my hands on one. July 8th and 9th is the Pismo Beach meet and someone should have an Edge there, I'll let you know my 0-60 times with my XCal2 vs the Edge.

Why is it that all these fan boys for each come out and say 'this is better'. Where are the numbers? Thats what I wanna see in this thread. No talk, just show.

Because the numbers don't matter in the real world. One truck in the northeast is going to run different than a truck at 4000 feet in Utah. Even different dyno's will post different numbers depending on a variety of factors.

All the tuners basically do the same thing. Adjust timing and fuel mixture.

The only difference overall is the price and what you get.

I like the EDGE because it has a great guage package and I can reprogram in about 30 seconds. The level 2 gives better throttle response and firmer shifts. I don't do WOT unless I have to. But that's my choice. Like I said, it's a matter of taste.

Those tests were done with 0-60 times. If those aren't numbers my teachers have been really @#*king with me.

As for mpg, on the "how do you untuned guys do it" thread, a user was reporting 15.7 mpg with a tune. However, I get 16.5 mpg without a tune.

Speed is everything when you are calculating your mileage. There is about a 4mpg difference from 60 to 75mph at stock height. I just don't understand how people can compare mileage with all these different driving habits (namely different speeds). I like it when you post your average highway speed along with your mileage.

Took a 400 mile round trip this weekend and avg 17.5 mpg. That's with the EDGE on Level 2, and going from 0-4000 feet. Speeds 70 mph-77.5 cruising. Some freeway driving in San Diego.

FWIW I just ordered my Edge programer tonight. I cannot justify the added expense for the XCAL2 from Troyer for a few more hp. Plus, the Edge has the added benefits of the mounting pod & gauge functions. I got mine for 335 shipped vs. the XCAL2 which would have been 425 plus shipping. I purchased mine mainly for towing and daily driving not ALL out performance.

I'd go with the Edge.

<rant on>

Yes, and thats was me. But, what does this have to do with anything!? First off, I only have 3800 miles on my truck and these motors don't even see major mpg improvements until around 5,000-7,500 miles. Trust me, I had a 2004 F-150. How many miles are on yours? Secoundly, do you understand that EVERY single vehicle is different and will be affected differently by a mod. I really think you're missing the point. Im happy you can get 16.5 mpg without a tune but do you realize that you're mileage will even go up more with a tune!?

</rant off>

PS: Josiah my average highway speed is way about 70 mph. . . and did I mention that I drive about 100-150 miles a day and only 20 of those miles are highway. I'd say that for those numbers that 15.7 mpg is DAMN good with only 3800 miles on my motor.

I went with the edge because there isnt a whole lot of difference between the edge and the Xcal2 and the edge comes with all of the guages and you can do 1/4 and 0-60 times and many other neat features that lets you set it. As for the mpg thing, it also depends on your driving habbits. I was getting like 13 with my stock tires on and maybe 11 with my 305/70/17's on and I got a little over 15 with the edge. I usally put my foot in it everytime I stop and take off. Just something about that flowmaster sound and not beeing slow thats puts a smile on my face

I was bored and started looking at the Edge box. It states that there is up to a 35hp/50 ft lb gain tested at 4500ft. So that should translate to more HP/tq for most of us since we are down at lower altitude???
