Question Problem with power window.

Yesterday when I got in my truck and shut the door, my driver's side window slid all the way down. I thought that I might have hit the express down button by accident but it turns out that's not the case. I tore the door all the way down so that I could see the power motor and regulator only to discover that the cables were tangled around the pullies. Not sure how this could have happened. Maybe someone was trying to slim-jim my truck to get in. Anyways it looks like I need to replace all of the hardware that deals with raising and lowering the window. I don't need the switches, but everything else needs to be replaced. The cables are kinked and the little plastic tabs that hold the cables in place are broken off. I think the simplest and most complete way to repair this is with a full replacement.

So I did a search and found some of the STX owners who did a power window upgrade and saw that someone had purchased a motor and regulator
KaNigIt has a picture of exactly what I need. I pasted this here.

So what I want to know is how do I order the entire assembly (motor and regulator) without the switches. Does anyone know the part number? I searched fordparts.com and came up with two different listings but neither gave a complete description of what is included. Is there someplace else that I could/should order from?

TIA
Ox

I took my truck to the dealer to have it fixed for this problem last week.

I just started a thread a week or so ago with the same problem. I got 4 or 5 replys with the same problem.

RECALL.

The window regulator broke, mine did the same thing last year. The part number you want is 4L3Z-1823201-CA, although this number may have updated to something newer.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

I read your previous thread and that sounds very similar to my problem. Mine just happened without prior warning. It worked fine that day before without a hint of problems. You say that you took it into the dealer for repair. Was this warranty work or did you pay? If you paid, then how much did it run you? I'm out of warranty coverage so I will have to foot the bill on this. The repair looks straight forward and I think that I can do it myself but if the dealer can do it for under $200 then I will pay them to fix it.

Quintin:
Where on the internet would I look up this part #. I tried at fordparts.com, motorcraft.com, and ford.com/partsandservices. None of these seem to have that part number. BTW you would'nt know if there is a TSB for this problem? Seems like several new trucks are aflicted with this issue.

One last question. Do I need to buy the entire assembly or just the regulator? The motor on my current one seems to work fine but the cables are all screwed. Can I switch the motor out to a new regulator or not?

Oxlander, My warranty footed the bill. Not sure what it costs.

I think the best thing for you to do would be to call a Ford dealerships parts department, For one, they will be able to tell you the exact part number of the part that needs replacement, and if you would like to help them out to make sure that they look up the correct part, call them with your vin. I believe with the F-150 you can purchase the motor and regulator without switches because you don't have to replace a switch unless it fails, and they aren't exactly the same part, the drivers side switch is a master switch and is it's own assembly. I could be mistaken but hopefully some of this information can help you out.

Like I said, that part number I gave you may have upgraded to a new number and doesn't exist in Ford's system anymore. Happens all the time - that part number above is current as of December '05, when I replaced mine.

I think a new regulator comes complete with a new motor, but I honestly can't remember.

Yes the window regulator and motor are one assembly.

When I installed power windows in my truck I purchased them from a dealer for roughly $100 per side.

Give the dealer a call. They will tell you exactly what you need.

If you aren't under warranty any more, I'd just talk to your dealer and explain to them what you need and ask them for the part numbers/prices so that you can order the parts yourself.
