Put a Monitor in One of My Overhead Bins (pics)

I have 3 overhead bins in my truck and never used the 3rd one because it was so hard to get to from the drivers seat. Recently I had gotten a good deal on some 5.6" screens so I decided to put a monitor in one of the bins and see how it turned out. I had to do a little cutting on the backside of the bin to run the wire correctly but it looks very clean and turned out real nice. I mounted the control box under the cover for the overhead light...then ran the wire between the rails.

All four screens:

The view from behind....keep in mind I have 5% tint over the factory tint (the bottom "screen" is a reflection on the bed cover):

That looks awesome Does it swing going down the road or did you mod it so it stays pretty steady.

It stays perfectly still....there is a little notch it snaps into at full open and it stays there. I had intened to change the angle at full open so it doesnt hang facing down but the viewing angle as it is is perfect for someone sitting in the middle of the rear seat so I am going to leave it alone.

Looks great, I've been thinking of the same mod. Could you give some more details and or part numbers used?

LOL...well then I can make you a hell of a deal. Give me half that and I will come up to Braselton and put all 3 in for you. I actually have around $300 in them (the two headrest monitors and the overhead monitor)...but then again I get them cheap and do all my own installs.

I have installed HRs monitors for several people on this board for around $425. So they aren't nearly as expense as some people think....unless you get them at Circuit City or Best Buy.

Well the only part I used was a Emerson 5.6in screen. Its actually pretty good quality. The picture is as good as the Toshiba screens I have in the headrests. I bought 10 of them for $400....then sold 8 of them for $75-$85 each. So I had two left...so I put this one in my truck and plan to put the other in my dads.
If your familiar at all with the way they work you know they have a little brain box that the video in, and power hook ups go into....then there is a single wire that runs to the monitor from it. I ran all my wires up the drivers side window post into the whole in the headliner under the overhead light. I mounted my box between the two lights (had to do just a little trimming to make it fit) and then ran the single wire back to the monitor. I had to take the bin apart and cut about a 2in long 1/2in wide slit in the black part so the wire would be able to move up and down as is opened and closed. I then attached the monitor to the housing using some epoxy and that was it.
