went to 4 wheel parts to see if i could get an exhaust (banks monster). i was suprised when he told me it it would cost me 782 bucks . is that what they really go for or is the guy trying to me ? i had a 2004 f150 before and paid like 230 for a flowmaster.

I paid $430 from

They still list them but don't have prices listed for some reason. I don't know if they worked out the problem, but the Banks Monster that I had (& then sold) had an absolutely unbearable drone right at 1500-1800 rpm, right where you would be cruising 90% of the time.

I bought KC's exhaust. I love it, does seem to not help low end much. The drone he talks about I don't notice much, usually ride alone so the stereo is turned up.

I had a Walker Dynomax and and a K&N Fipk on my 99 and it was a little sluggish until you hit about 2K Rpms then whole new truck.

Have been told it is not as good as the MagnaFlows, but I got a great deal and it is what I was looking at getting anyway.

I'm glad it's working out for you. It still to this day cracks me up how that deal worked out.

Having compared stock to Banks Monster to Gibson SI/SO, I will say the Banks has a definitely power advantage over the Gibson.

Does an after-market exhaust like this really increase your HP or is that just advertising mumbo jumbo?

Yes, they do increase you HP & TQ. Problem is, you're in a 5500lb to 6000lb truck. Are you really going to notice an increase of 20HP?

Like I said a few posts up, I've compared 3 systems in less than a week:

1. Stock: Sounds like a Singer sewing machine. It actually feels like the engine is struggling to push the exhaust thru that POS.

2. Banks Monster Power: Made great power, sounds like a musclecar when you get on it & looks freaking awesome with that bazooka barrell exhaust tip looking at you. The single only reason I sold it was the droning. If it didn't do that, I would never have sold it. I loved the sound when you floored it.

3. Gibson SI/SO 3" Mandrel Bent: Not a bad system but nothing to write home about. It makes a noticable power increase over stock but nowhere near as much as the Banks. The Gibson muffler is twice as big as the Banks. It makes a nice subtle rumble. Not much louder than stock really but it absolutely sounds better than stock.

After all this, if I had to do it all over again, I would have gone with Borla. I originally wanted a Borla system but when I called them, they said that they didn't have the systems ready for the 05's yet. For those not familiar, there was a big hoopla around late 04 to mid 05 with the exhausts on the F-150. Some had a "S Bend" in the pipe, some didn't.https://www.f150online.com/galleries...3637&anum=7720 That bend f'd up the aftermarket companies and lots of guys bought systems that didn't fit & had to send them back or mod them to get them to fit. I had to have Gibson make me a custom mid pipe to get mine to work. Borla's sound like music on a Camaro and they probably have been in business longer than any other exhaust company other than Flowmaster or Walker/Dynomax. How they sound on a 5.4 3V, I have no idea. If not Borla then probably Bassani. No matter how much people love them, I'm not impressed with Magnaflow.

After installing five MBRP exhaust systems on my diesels, I would not hesitate to try theirs on a gasser 150 next time around. Has anyone tried them yet?

I wasn't either until I tried them, then I liked Magnaflow afterwards. The SIDO I have on my truck is just right I feel so I guess I fall into that group

I have had Bassani, Borla and Magnaflow in direct comparison, not on my truck but on my cobra. All 3 make good quality products.

I took my motorhome to the banks facility in Azuza to have a full system installed. While there i had asked one of the tech's about a Bank's exhaust for my 04 F-150 (4.6), he told me it would not make much of a difference in performance. I was surprised he told me that.
