TransferCase Slips Out of 4wd

I believe it has to do with my tcase because the 4wd will engage and disengage while I'm locked in. What happens is this, I turn the dash to 4wd, it shows the 4wd indicator light as locked in and it locks in, the front driveshaft turns but moving 5-10 feet forward will unlock the driveshaft, it no longer spins but the dash shows it as still locked in. It then re-engages very violently a few more feet later (violently because I'm usually turning a few rpms). What are some possible solutions. It would be great if it was electrical and/or a small vacuum leak but that really doesn't seem to be the case. Possible fluid problems?

I posted this in the Powertrain forum and gave it a few days but no reply and I'm planning on heading to the upcoming Pismo meet again. Hopefully I can fix it by then, need to know what I'm looking at here.

I had a similiar problem on my '98 and it was a fluid leak. Due to not having enough it would pull out and go back to 2WD. Place a long sheet of cardboard under the truck and see where it leaks. Good luck man, hope you can make it out.

I have had this problem before and never figured it out. It just finally started to work on it's own. It ended up making me burie my truck down to the frame one time. Hope you can get it all worked out.

Well, I'd let it go but it decides to slam back into 4wd only while I'm turning my wheels. It f'in slams into 4wd too, you may have seen the video I posted a week ago.

I am trying to hang on to as much money as possible, can't afford it just yet but we'll see. I'm hoping it's just low on fluid, wouldn't that be great.

Yea your truck is pretty "custom". They probly wont take it on waranty but you could try. At least see what the problem is. Then you could try to fix it yourself but if not bring it back to the dealer.

Part of the reason why my dealer got me on warranty was because they thought I bought the truck already lifted since they have lifted trucks in the front of their dealership for show.
