Chrome Running Boards off of eBay
Chrome Running Boards off of eBay
I got some chrome running boards off of eBay. They are basically "scratch and dents" from JC Whitney. They are their in-house brand. I paid $110 shipped.
There are no scratches, and only a few small dents that aren't really visible. Great value!
I only put them on today, so I can't rate their durability yet. The brackets appear to be very strong and they bolt directly in to the holes already there. Installation wasn't bad except the brackets were labeled wrong and I initially put the wrong tube on the wrong side.
There's only 1 bolt holding each end of the tube into the bracket, so it's not really impressive.
Here's where I got them: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=8065390090
So far, I like them. Here's some pics:

Great deal!!! I did the same thing only I got ones that didn't wrap around. I haven't been on E-bay for awhile, but they were like 220 shipped. I looked them over when I got them and they had one tiny dent. Unoticeable to anyone but me. I was actually REALLY impressed by them and thought of them being top quality. It was a pleasant surprise. Look at them in my gallery if you wish.

I've had my truck since October '05 [maybe November] and have had no dents on either pair of my chrome nerf bars [I recently changes the type they came with] yet AND I've done some minor off-roading.
I had my 2000 Scab for almost three years before cutting it loose [42K] and did so without a dent or scratch on the chrome nerf bars that I installed at less than 5K. And I did a lot more off-roading in that than I'll ever do in this. And guess what? Not a mark!
These chrome nerf bars [for most part] aren't as "flimsy" as you may think. They're NOT a tin can; they can stand up to some abuse. Sure, you get what you pay for as everything in life, but I'm certain even the cheap ones don't disfigure and dent as easy as one may think.
ieee_raider,
I'm guessing the previous owner did some "serious" off-roading to leave those "minor dents" on your chrome bars because I seriously doubt your average driving conditions would leave such battle wounds.
Safe driving.
Wow, I didn't realize this wasn't an open forum and people weren't allowed to reply "in general" and they had to reply only to specific posts directed towards them.
Jeez.
Anyway, tubes can get dents from road debris, off roading, etc.
The tubes I got had been damaged in shipping. They had never been installed before.

How I "claim" they get dented huh... well uhhh I guess some of us aren't as lucky as you. Offroading will dent them as stated before and so will just parking it in a parking lot and some one hits it with their door. I received a dent in my other set of Ford OEM nerfbars from a small rock that I hit while driving down the road.
If you read his previous post you would have also seen that he stated that he received a deal on them from JC Whitney because of cosmetic defects. If it can happen during shipping or storing it can definitely happen while driving 55 MPH down the highway.
